virus magnet on earth. nor is XP supported. in fact most web site even ban the old IE used on it and can IE can not be upgraded to E11, at all.
the track pad will only work with the XP driver, loaded.
the keyboard will only work , for the same reasons,
a driver, guess what HP and MS no longer have drivers this PC.
hp only supports VISTA 32 or 64 bit on this PC that is a fact.

if you install XP on this PC , gee you dont have XP disks from HP so how did you do that, from DELL disks or hackers?
if you installe XP in the lofty year 2018 what happens

the pad is called Synaptics Touchpad
the vista driver (useless for XP , totally) this driver is 2007 issued

seems to have hidden XP driver in the Vista package
only you can run this and see, if it works
i know how to read install files but can not test XP here
we ended it back in 2009(oct) as all wise folks do and use window 7.

Your best bet is to get that keyboard replaced. for some reason the overlay underneath that key isn't responding properly whether its because its worn out or maybe somebody spilled water on the keyboard by accident. Intermittent keyboard problems only get worse over time.

The notebook model you have is shipped with the Synaptics touchpad driver. Please follow the below steps to enable scrolling features:
1. Open Control panel -> click on Mouse . It will display Mouse Properties dialog box.
2. Under Mouse properties Window click the Device Settings tab
3. Click on Device Settings -> Settings button. This will display the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad on PS/2 port.
4. Follow the steps below to enable the Tapping Feature :
Highlight Tapping in the Left hand side , and Check the Enable tapping in the Right hand box .
5. Follow the steps below to enable Scroll feature:
Highlight Virtual Scrolling in the Left hand side and Check both the boxes in the right hand side.
6. Click OK .
Alternatively you can anble scrolling by reinstalling touchpad driver.
