I had the same problem. My problem was the oil sensor. Unplug the oil sensor wite and see if it starts. If it does the order a new one, they are about 12 bucks
Recently purchased UST 5500 from Pep Boys. Had same problem during engine break in period. Found that the carb will not draw gas when generator is on level surface. Mine has the wheel kit and it causes the fuel inlet to be at highest point in tank. If you block up the wheels and change the angle of the tank it will improve fuel line pickup. Also check gap on plug, mine was way off from factory. Also check the routing of the spark plug wire and make sure it is not getting forced off the plug by tension from breather hose. Once the engine starts make sure to push choke back in, it will run for a good while choked but it will eventually shut off if you don't push choke back in. Hope this helps. Took me awhile to discover the fuel feed issue.

Maybe when the ignition coil heats up it will not produce any spark to the spark plug. Run the engine until it stalls and remove the spark plug and put the plug wire back on and ground the plug to the engine. See if you get spark at the electrode of the spark plug when you have some one pull the starter rope with the switch on the run position.
If it runs for hours under the same a mount of load then, chokes down, make sure fuel lines are fully clear, it may operate with a full tank of gas then when the weight of the fuel in the tank gets less has a problem. When it chokes out fill the gas back up and see if it works again. Also make sure the choke butterfly is not closing again whilst hot. I don't know how many hours are on it, but a decarb may be in order, especially if it runs for hours no issues
Recheck for spark when it stalls. If you have lost spark I would say a heat damaged coil.
You should also drain and inspect the carb bowl. You may have low fuel flow which limits full throttle operation to 30 minutes or less. When it dies you are just refilling the bowl for the next run.

I can give you the "OWNERS MANUAL" for the 5500/8200 Model 16172 Electra generator, but I don't think that is what you're looking for, is it? I purchased the generator at the Navy Exchange and got the 3 year warranty on it. When it suddenly wouldn't start going into it's third year, I contacted the warranty center and they told me where to take the generator for repair. That shop worked on it and finally got it to start, but when they attempted a second start - the starter 'dogs' hung up and were destroyed. The shop attempted to locate parts, technical services, etc., for Electra, but couldn't find anything and the warranty center finally returned my purchase money and the shop sent the generator back to the warranty center. does it have original oil in it? if so they use a lighter weight oil than recommended for engine break in. change your oil and filter and see if that doesnt solve it.could be thinning out loosing pressure when hot. i have seen this beofore.. :)
