Washer not spinning - not timer

Correct model # 110.24642300
my washer will not spin on it's own - the motor runs, the knob turns, but it does not spin. it will spin if i turn the knob to spin (i've been doing that for months). i also noticed, when this happens, that the knob is about a 1/4 of an inch before the spin cycle should start. i was told it sounded like the timer - i replaced it and it's doing the same thing. could the timer be installed wrong or can it be adjusted? please help. thank you.

the washer advances through all the cycles by itself with no problems until the spin cycle. one side note.. i wash all my loads on the 10 minute cycle, but if i do a small load and start it on the 6 minute cycle, after the water fills it doesn't start to agitate right away, either you have to wait a minute or so then it will start or "jostle" the timer back and forth and then it will start. when doing this the spin cycle worked on that particular load. hope this additional info helps...

I'm on my 3rd timer - that's not it. I kept the lid open with a screwdriver for an entire cycle. It agitates, empties, and fills, when it's supposed to spin - it starts slowly, releasing some fabric softener, and then stops and you can hear the motor ticking. If I remove and replace the screwdriver a couple times, it starts spinning. It fills again, agitates, empties and the same thing, it starts and then stops, this time the motor is much louder - again with the screwdriver. Does it sound more like a lid switch or maybe a transmission? I've been searching for solutions for similar problems on here. Thank you.

Loses power in spin cycle

First lid must be down before washer start spinning. Remove any obstructions in drain hose and or straighten drain hose to remove kinks. Lid or other object hit timer knob and turned the washer off - Make sure the Timer knob is pulled out.
If the lid was opened with too much force when adding clothes, it may have hit the timer knob, pushing the knob in.
If a laundry basket or other object hit the Timer knob, the Timer knob may have been pushed in shutting the washer off.
Washer lid is not locked (Not on All Washers) - The lid must be closed and locked for the washer to operate. Once the lid is closed, make sure the desired cycle is still selected and then press the Start button and listen for the lid to lock.
Make sure there are no loose metal objects such as coins and paper clips in the lid opening area. Metal objects can prevent magnetic switches from reacting correctly when the lid is closed.
If the washer has not drained, it will not go into spin.
Use a flashlight to inspect the holes in tub for foreign objects like screws, nails, bra wires, etc. and remove if present.

The Maytag washer is 26 years old. The problem is

Sounds like the timer motor may be dead. Can you hear it ticking when it is on or can you see the gear on the timer motor shaft turning when it is running? If not then the timer should be replaced.

Kenmore Series 80 washer NO High Speed Spin

It could be a timer, motor or wiring problem. You would need to check for 110 volts at the timer or motor when in the higher spin mode. If you are getting 110v you have a bad motor. No or low volts you have a bad timer. The motor is either a 2 or 3 speed motor and you would have to determine which winding to check for the 110v. The schematic is usually glued to the inside rear cabinet. Please rate this post.

Kenmore Series 80 Washer timer knob spins

Something in the timer came apart. Timer needs replaced. When in good working order, the timer should ONLY ever be turned clockwise..Reversing this could break it.

Have maytag washing machine model no LAT5006AGE serial no 25000887yk which will not spin belt appears ok but motor is not working for the spin cycle. It washes fills drains all ok do you have a solution...

Possibly a lid switch. The washer shouldn't spin if it thinks the lid is open. Possibly a wiring issue. Check the wiring to the motor. If those check out it could be a problem with the timer. Sometimes bad contacts in a timer can be checked by turning the washer on in the spin cycle where it should be working and wiggling the timer shaft up and down and around without turning the knob. If the washer starts and stops, you've got a bad timer.

Maytag LAT9706AAM Washer - Spin Cycle problems

If the timer is advancing but won't spin out, it is possible that the spin contacts inside the timer are faulty. A technician will normally isolate and confirm this diagnosis witth a special power cord hookup to the motor. From the way you describe your complaint, I feel that a timer would correct your problem.

Hope this advice is helpful!
