Clothes coming out with stains they didn't have - looks like oil/grease

Sometimes I pull out a shirt from the washer & it looks like it has an oil or grease stain on it... but none of the clothes in that load had any stains when I put them in. It has ruined several of my shirts this way.I know it is not bleach... because I have never used bleach in this washer. I don't have clothes with stains going in, but I have stains on some when they come out. It doesn't happen every time, but it has happened enough times to really tick me off - and ruin a handfull of my shirts.

Does anyone know what could be causing this - or how to fix it??

Yes.Every so often my light clothes come out of the washing machine with spots, appearing like  grease.I don't know if I need replace my machine,or  if there is a repair to be done.I also have wondered if there was a problem with the water being used and maybe a filter is needed.
I have seen small grease-like pellets remaining in the tub after I remove the clothing.
    What to do ??

Front load greasy residue ,

Due usually to much detergent in each load, use smaller amounts.
To much detergent degrades the rubber seals and gaskets and rubber seal also in some front loaders around the door too!

Over the life of a front loading washer the seal/gasket degrades
largely due to the chemicals in the detergent as well as bleach.

Most gaskets/seals get hard and brittle therefore the over the life of a front loading washer
the seal/gasket degrades largely due to the chemicals in the detergent as well as bleach.

....please rate this ....thanks

I have a brand new 2018 GE washer and I have random oil stains ALL over my clothes! It’s only been getting worse. I called GE and they said I have a 2 year warranty so they’re sending a technician out to either repair the transmission oil leak (which from research seems to be the only culprit) or give me a new machine. This problem is god awful because by the time you realize, your clothes are ruined! I’ll be taking this case higher to try and get reimbursed for my ruined wardrobe but so far at the time they say warranty doesn’t cover that.

I doubt you'll ever see this, but did you resolve the problem with your machine? What was causing the spots?

In looking at other problems on-line it appears that the GE Profile washer I have does have problems with the transmission seal. On the GE website FAQs they state that it is impossible for oil to get into the drum. They are stupid, cause I can see it coming from under the agitator myself! Others have posted similar problems. Most of the solution answers say I need to replace the transmission, which isn't simple. I"ll pjrobably have to buy a new machine rather than pay several hundred bucks to repair

Gunk gets on clothes-stains them,i pulled agitator out and cleaned it off ran bleach thru-its better but still getting on clothes

The problem may be the seal on the transmission failing. If this happens, grease from the transmission (necessary for it to function) will leak and float (recall from science class that oil is less dense that water) up into the washer. As the grease enters the tub, it stains your clothes.

I get black marks like a crayon or ink line on certain light colored shirts after washing my clothes. Not sure if it's coming from washer or dryer. I use a stain remover and it's not coming out completely.

is the black marks grease look under the bottom of the machine and look on the side walls of the machine if u have a line of grease around both sides then you would need to change the transimission on the machine if it is not grease and you determine that is pen u might try looking in between the two baskets. And lastly ihave seen pen cartriges enlodge inside the pump which does cause the pen to leak hope this helps

I am getting stains on my dark clothes that look like oil stains.

Check that the dispenser is clean, it may be gunged up with black gunge, use soda crystals and put machine on hottest wash. If all is clean it could be down to seal gone in drum letting grease into system. Good luck, let me know how it goes.

Grease stains from Maytag MAV7200AWW washer

HI! I just posted a question to "justask.com" and am having the exact same problem. I paid $9 for this answer and was happy to pay it because I now know what it is! From what I have been told, it is from the transmission in your washer and will cost at least $400 to fix it (that's just a ballpark figure... I have a Frigidaire and that was the figure I was given). So, basically, it would be more cost effective for you to purchase a new washer.

Washing machine stains clothes

You can pull the agitator straight up and off to check if there is any grease / oil on the bottom of it. You may have to use a belt or similar item to slip under the agitator and attach the other end to a broom handle to pull up if it is difficult to remove. If there is grease / oil, it is not very easy or inexpensive to repair. The average life of a washer is about 9 years, so this one doesn't owe you anything. I'd look into a new front load unit which uses much less water and spins clothes out at 2X or more the RPM's of your current machine. Please don't rate this solution as anything but a FixYa rating will lower my overall score. Thanks.

Clear greasy stains appearing on clothes from brand new LG front loading washer

the grease i'm sure would be coming from the machine. look at the water solenoids, detergent dispenser, dispenser solenoids, everything with rubber hoses.

they do put a clear grease just to insert the hose easier in the plant. and if it was not removed during QC, then it would come out now as you uses it.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Grease spots and stains

Yes you can. Remember a front loader has no gearbox so no oil is coming from there? fabric conditioner, washing powder, and oils from our bodys can build up on the tub walls. All it needs is a good flush out. You can use dishwashing powder. Run it through with no clothes in you washing machine on a hot wash or a wash and hold a couple of times to flush it out. NZL

Mile 864 front loader - clothes come out with new grease marks

Problem will be the use of fabric softner or too much detergent. The stain you are seeing is generally to animal fat that is present in fabric softner, Best solution is to cut back on the amount of softner being used, same with powder.
