Fan/Overheating issues averatec 3200 series Laptop

Does anyone out there have averatec experience? I have a 3200 series laptop I bought refurbished. Here's the tricky part. Where your right hand would go as you type, the sticker says 3200. On the back of the computer a sticker says 3250.
The fan started off quiet. 2 years later it gets loud, then noise lowers, gets loud etc then seems to over heat at shuts itself down.
So I assumed it was the fan that needed replacing. I found one online, replaced it,
Now its the same thing, fan noise high, fluctuates, sounds low, but only shuts itself off on occasion now. After I had replaced the fan a friend told me it sounds like the fan isn't getting the appropriate voltage which would make the fan noise fluctuate like that. He said it had something to do with BIOS which I know nothing about. But , when I checked into it, its password protected someone please help!! Thanks!

I had the same problem and went into the CMOS, Power Management and ran the FAN Learning feature. It runs for about 10 minutes and then chooses the right fan speed for your machine. My machine's fan was running really high. After this test, it ran a lot slower and did not overheat anymore. I also use a fan underneath the machine that plugs into a USB port for extra air control. No more issues.

Fans on laptops run when the CPU is taxed. The more its taxed the louder it will be due to higher fan speed. The laptop over the years has gotten bloated with programs and stuff that gets in and stays on your hard drive. The more programs running in the backround the more the CPU is taxed. Try uninstalling useless programs first, empty your recycle bin, delete temporary internet files and cookies, run the disk cleanup utility then perform a scan disk and a deframent. Also you may want to add more memory to your system if it needs it. I use crucial's website (crucial.com) to scan the computer and tell me what memory I can use in my machine. Hope this info helps you out.

That happened to me as well. I thought it was the fan or the BIOS. It turned out to be the battery.

Test my solution on your computer. Take the battery out and use only the power supply. If it works the laptop will not turn off.

The battery seems to give off a funky discharge making the board and fan act funny.

I hope this helps.

your solution for power management is great but i would not recommend using the USB port of any laptop to charge up external devices (such as fans) unless when really necessary, such as when an external data back up HD unit with no PSU is the device that has to be attached and requires to drain power off the laptop rather than an external PSU.

i managed (successfully!) to have one of the two memory slots on my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 600m) burnt down (plus its PSU was sadly damaged too) via attaching small keyboard lights and battery chargers etc to the USB port of the poor laptop, which was otherwise working really fine.

i had only just upgraded the machine's memory from 256MB to 1GB (2x512MB memboards) and it was really good and fast but now i have only 512 attached to the remaining memory slot. and the repair costs, if workable at all that is, are not worth it really. i was hoping to max out the memory to 2GB btw, but sounds like it's not possible to do so anymore.

My Averatec 3200 keeps shutting itself down. The

A common problem with all laptop is dust. Sounds like you have 5 years worth of dust stuck in there. You should get a can of compressed air and blow though every vent you can! You want to loosen the dust that's in there and possibly try to blow it out and/or get it closest to the vents.

After that you should take a vaacum cleaner and **** out all the dust you can!

Dust inhibits air flow, alot! Its the number 1 killer of old computers.
