How To Repair Your Operating System

A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied. Here is how to run an OS Repair using the Operating System CD in XP, Vista, or 7:

Windows XP

1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below:

3. Press ENTER to start the Windows Setup.
4. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, END setup.
6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Windows Vista

If you have a Windows Vista installation disc, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the installation disc. If you do not restart your computer from the disc, the option to repair your computer will not appear.

Here is a step by step picture guide.

If you have a Windows Vista installation disc:

1. Insert the installation disc.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click Restart.
4. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

Windows 7

1. If a startup problem is detected, Startup Repair will start automatically and try to fix the problem.
2. If the problem is severe enough that Startup Repair doesn't start on its own and you can't access the System Recovery Options menu on your computer's hard disk, you can get to the menu and start Startup Repair by using the Windows installation disc or a system repair disc that you created earlier.

Aspire 5475 freezes on startup

It is most certainly a driver, but if you cant access the safe mode also that could be a hardware issue.. Try to troubleshoot with a windows installation cd. Put it in and boot the pc. It will start the windows instalation, you choose repair computer and not install windows. The command prompt will open, try to troubleshoot from there.. Thanks!

I was told it needs reformatted the message on

If you have a windows installation disc, you can boot with it and choose repair. Let windows repair the startup files. In Vista, just boot with the disc, choose repair, vista will search the windows installations and give you the result, you highlight the installation and hit repair.

If you have XP, choose repair and when is says to exit to go to recovery console ot install, click install > click F8 to agree > windows will search for windows installations, again highlight the windows installation and choose to repair at that point, windows will attempt to fix the startup files.

  • Startup Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can fix certain problems, such as missing or damaged system files, that might prevent Windows from starting. Startup Repair is located on the System Recovery Options menu, which is on the Windows Vista installation disc. If your computer has preinstalled recovery options, it might also be stored on your computer's hard disk. For more information, see Startup Repair: frequently asked questions and What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista? If your computer does not include Startup Repair, your computer manufacturer might have customized or replaced the tool. Check the information that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer's website.
  • Change restart settings in safe mode. If your computer is stuck in a loop where Windows fails, attempts to restart, and then fails again repeatedly, restart your computer in safe mode and select the Disable automatic restart on system failure checkbox. For more information, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode).
  • Reinstall. If no other options have solved the problem, and you are sure that your computer's hardware is functioning normally, you might need to reinstall Windows. A custom (clean) installation of Windows will permanently delete all of the files on your computer and reinstall Windows, so only use this option if all other recovery options have been unsuccessful. After the installation, you will need to reinstall your programs and restore your files from backup copies. For more information, see Installing and reinstalling Windows‌.

Windows Vista is not starting due to missing or corrupt files.
Run Startup Repair using Vista Operating System disc
  1. Place the Windows Vista Media Backup DVD into to the optical drive and start the computer.
  2. Press any key to boot from CD or DVD.
  3. On the Install Windows screen, click Next.
  4. On the Install Windows screen, select Repair your computer.
  5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Next.
  6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate operating system, and then click Next.
  7. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select Startup Repair.
  8. The Startup Repair attempts to locate and resolve issues with the computer.
  9. If prompted, Do you want to restore your computer using system restore?, click Restore.
  10. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Finish. This screen can vary, dependant on if a problem was found or not.
  11. System restarts.
  12. If the problem was resolved, the computer restarts into Vista.
  13. If the problem was not fixed, the error may present itself again.
  14. Run Startup Repair again.
  15. If Startup Repair runs more than three (3) times, when available, select View advanced options for system recovery and support.
  16. For further troubleshooting, select one of the following options:
    • System Restore
    • Command Prompt
    • Last resort - Recovery Manager. Recovery Manager is not available if accessing WinRE via Vista OS Backup Media DVD

or you can use any software that can repair and recover your windows files.

Tom

You should go into the safe mode and try to uninstall or undo the previous work. Else use the system restore. But if it continues again with a blue screen error, then u should format ur pc, further if u experience blue screen error then u should note that one of ur hardware is damaged.

Thankyou...!!!
