The bulb and/or fuel lines could have a small hole in them, losing vacuum, introducing air into the fuel system and causing problem. First off, check inside the fuel tank and make sure the fuel filter is attatched to fuel line. This is a common place for the line to break and if it does, it floats, introducing LOTS of air and a malfunctioning purge/primer bulb. When you depress the bulb, the vacuum created actually allows gas to Flow to the carburetor as it is pushing any air/old gas back to the fuel tank. So, in summary. Carefully check the condition of ALL of the fuel lines ,fuel filter and the bulb itself. If they are dry, non-flexible, or cracked, they need to be replaced.

Most bubbles **** the fuel from the carburator and forces it back into the fuel tank.

So if you dont have a leak, you probably have the filter line hooked to the bubble or the inport export lines on the buble need to be changed.

There should not be anything between the fuel filter and the carburator intake. With a long piece of tubing hook one end to the carburator. Then **** on the other end if it creates a vacuum, mark that port as the intake because your closing the flap in the carburator. The other line is usually bent

  • JOE TURN Sep 02, 2012

PS the buble also has a oneway valve the export line should be connected to it in such a way so that it will squirt the gas back into the carburator while press it.

  • JOE TURN Sep 03, 2012

TERRIBLE MISTAKE HERE I meant to say the bubble squirts the gas from the carburator back into the gas tank..The filter stops trash from getting back into the carburator soo I'de say the lines were connected wrong.remember the carburator intake port is usualy straight attaches to the fuel filter inside the tank and the long bubble port connects to the fuel tank

Hi mark stockel...
You may have sucked up some more trash into your carburetor...
Did you flush all the fuel lines before reinstalling your rebuilt carburetor? Check for trash in your fuel tank, or Portable fuel tank...Probably not...
Take your carburetor back apart and remove the jets and blow all the jet passages, and fuel passages with 50 - 90 psi compressed air...also blow all fuel lines, be careful with the one that runs to the fuel tank you could blow the fuel filter off with too much air.
After your done, reinstall your carburetor and fuel lines then you should be good to go

I have a CS4518 Earthquake chainsaw that will crank fine when you pump a little gas to the carb, but stops as soon as it burns the gas. I have replaced all fuel lines, primer bulb , cleaned the carb and...

Hi, OK firstly when you pump the primer bulb the primer bulb pulls fuel from the reservoir and pushes it to the carb then after around six to ten pumps the carb chamber is full and the fuel then goes back to the feservoir. Normally if you have a leak on the fuel line you get air in the priming bulb. Next thing is having primed Put the choke on full and pull the engine over a few times untill you hear it fire. Then depress the throttle and put the choke lever back to normal run position and pull the starter a couple of times untill it starts. Thats a pretty fool proff method on all two stroke machines and I have a few. Hope that is of some help.

Which gas line goes to which connecter on the carb? I disassembled to clean and it's having pressure issues. The tank is filling with pressure and the bulb won't retain enough gas to keep the

The thing to remember is that the primer pulls fuel from the carb into the bulb and dumps back to the tank, it does not push fuel into the carb, connect the fuel line from the tank to the carb connection nearest to the alluminium pump cover held with a single screw, the other one goes to the shorter of the two connections on the back of the primer.

Craftsman 25 cc Weedwacker

Look for air leaks in the gas line and around the carb , a bad gas cap will not let any pressure build up. It could be that too. Check also the fuel line and filter inside the tank. replace if needed.

I changed the primer bulb and now it's not getting

sounds like you hooked the lines up backwards, when you press the primer it is supposed to squirt gas into the tank on the return line cause what it does is draw fuel through the carb and back to the tank....filter line from tank goes to fuel pump side of carb and return line on carb goes to primer bulb then opposite line on bulb to tank...... so when you press bulb it draws fuel through filter in tank through carb and back to tank ! good luck! 2StrokeJim

1982 yamaha yz490, I checked the fuel flow and all is good? It has 120 psi compression? And I put a new plug in but still wants to run for a few seconds then die? When it's not running It also leaks...

If it's leaking from the bowl drain, the drain screw isn't seating in the drain hole. Shut the gas off, pull it out and clean the tapered seat it seals in. I know you said you cleaned the carb, but if the float needle isn't seating, it would leak out the overflow and flood out the carb as well. Check out the float-if it's brass, shake it and listen for gas inside. If it's plastic, put it in a cup of gas and see if it floats. They do get saturated over time and need to be replaced. Good luck!

McCulloch 28cc Gas Blower MB3200, it doesn't appear to be getting gas from the lines INTO the carb... You can pump the primer bulb but it WILL NOT push it into or out of the carb... Any help???

The primer should pull fuel out of the carb, into the bulb and dump it back to the tank, if the fuel filter in the tank is blocked, or the fuel hose is split no fuel will enter the carb, so the primer will not fill, replace the filter and the fuel hose.

Hi i have a homelite chain saw csp 3314 and is not been use for tow years ,i try to start but refuses to ,it has a good spark ,i don't know why is not starting?? any help i will apresiete.

Most often this is because the gas has "soured" - it breaks down into a varnish compound, which is easily recognized by a foul smell in the gas tank that does not smell like gas.

You need to drain all the old gas. Pull the spark plug (clean it also- using a new plug is even better!), pump the primer bulb, and then pull the cord twenty times or so with no plug in the engine to try and purge all the old fuel. Get as much as possible out of the fuel system- the primer bulb should only have a drop or two at most in it.

Next, put in fresh gas along with a little carb cleaner- mix a gallon of gas with half an ounce of carb cleaner, plus whatever amount of two stroke oil you normally mix per gallon. Put the plug back in. Press the primer bulb 3 times, set the choke, and try to start. Make sure that you can see fuel in the primer bulb.

Your chainsaw will probably fire on the first or second pull, but not run (if it does start and run, GREAT!) On the third pull, most often it will start....if not....

Pump the primer three more times, and try the starting procedure again, and hopefully it will start, possibly running rough for the first minute.

If you still cannot get it started, pull the plug, clean and dry it, and try again... it is best at this point if you have a brand new plug to use it instead.

If your saw will still not start and run steady, you probably have a "varnished carb" - buildup from the gas souring has clogged the needle valve/orifice, and the float may be stuck. You will need to service the carb.

Good Luck, and Thank You for using FixYa!

I'm trying to get an old weedeater/poulan 22" excalibur hedge trimmer running for my son. In the past someone has cut a fuel line going to primer bulb. I replaced that line and when I use the primer...

There are 2 different set ups for fuel lines on these 2 stroke carburetors. One has a remote primer/purge bulb and the other has the primer/purge bulb on top of the carburetor. Here are instructions on how both kind work and how to service them.

The small diameter line out of fuel tank (has filter in-tank on end) connects directly to the side of the carburetor that has the fuel pump....that is the cover without the hole in it. Other larger diameter fuel line out of tank connects to the longer nipple on the external purge/primer bulb. The bulb "pulls" fresh fuel from the fuel tank to the carb and then out of the carb to itself, where it then "pushes" any air/old fuel back into the fuel tank. The remaining larger diameter fuel line in this setup goes from the metering chamber (has cover with writing on it and a vent-hole) side of the carburetor to the smaller nipple on the purge/primer bulb. Again, on the primer bulb, the longer nipple has a line going directly from it to the tank. This is the return line. The shorter nipple on the bub has a line from it going to the metering chamber side of the carb. If the purge/primer bulb is on top of the carb...small line from carb body to small hole in tank with filter. Larger diameter line goes from the bulb on the fuel pump side of the carb to the larger hole in the fuel tank where sometimes the line is held in place with a nylon nipple connector that keeps the line from pulling out of the tank. Otherwise, the line should enter the tank for about 1/2" or so If you have any more questions, please post back. I will see your comment and be glad to help you,
