Water does not drain from the Freezer during the defrost cycle

Our Frigidaire frost free freezer runs fine. During the defrost cycle the heat come on and melts the ice on the coils. This water running to the bottom of the freezer but refreezes before it can drain properly. The drain hole is clear and not clogged. Each depfrost cycle more and more ice is built up in the bottom of the freezer over the drain hole. The freezer is located in a basement at 68 degrees. It is also level.

Thre freezer does not have a drain hose. The drain on the back of the
freeze has a very short pipe about one inch long directly over the
metal drain pan which is attached to the compressor. At the end of this
short drain pipe is a cap. This cap is suppose to act like a trap. The
cap is about the size of a silver dollar. As the water flow from the
freeze during defrost it over flow from the cap and drips in the
pan. The cap has a little water in it. This water acts as a seal
so air does not excape from the freezer.

I have the exact same freezer, with the exact same problem, the drain hole is clear except when the water freezes in it and blocks the flow. I have the freezer in the basement, where in the winter (live in Michigan)the basement temp can get to 60 - 65 F. Also this freezer is about 6-8 years old and has worked fine up til now.

freezer coils in our Frigidaire frost-free upright freezer are completely frozen(a solid block of ice) so when it tries to defrost, water runs out of the bottom front door of the freezer.

already tried letting it melt any ince in the line, no joy. how do I clear the drain line?

Water runs out of the water dispenser when the ice maker fill with a large volume of water. There is a growling noise inside the back of the freezer.

Ice accumulates by the drain area at the bottom of the freezer even if hole is clear. Eventually it spills over to the entire bottom

Freezer seems to be stuck in defrost mode

Sounds like the pat test fried the pcb. They use too high a voltage to test the appliance wiring and it doesn't do printed boards much good!

Ice in the bottom of freezer

Greetings,
the drain is clogged most likely...remove lower shelves, baskets, remove rear panel if self defrosting.. find the drain hole and use a hair dryer or hot water to defrost ice..once the surface ice is off...you will need to make sure there is no ice in drain tube going down under freezer. use a squeeze bottle with hot water and force it into drain. do this repeatly until water runs free down drain....Bruce Denton

Self defrosting / but there is ice in the bottom

The most common thing that causes this is a stopped up drain. Thaw the ice out of the bottom and locate the drain hole (probably towards the back, possibly behind the back panel) and clear with with a stiff wire or coat hanger.

If the water is unable to drain from the freezer during the defrost cycle it collects in the bottom and freezes there when the freezer is running again.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need further assistance.

Water in the floor

there is a drain hose that comes out of the bottom of the cabinet into a drain pan underneath your freezer take a look and see if that got pulled loose during your move. if it is in place then you most likely have a plugged drain. this can be cleaned fromt he inside at the botom. reomve the bottom basket and the shelf right above it. you will see ice build up on the floor of the freezer and and behind the cover. just defrost the ice you will uncover the drain hole flush warm water thru the line till it runs clear. good luck peyton

Ice build up in my frost free upright freezer

I looked at the BACK at the bottom underneath of my Sears Kenmore frost free upright freezer and what was causing the ice buildup was very simple. At the factory, the assembler looped the little hose too high and when the water went into the hose it could not get out due to being too high in one spot! An ice dam will form, blocking ALL water coming through
and freezing up any more water coming down giving you a HUGE wad of ice that is scary!!! I just removed the screw holding the loop that holds the hose and put a bit of warm water down the little hole on the INSIDE (Behind the grate) to melt the remaining ice in the tube. You need to take out 4 screws and remove the grate to see this. I could not believe that this was the problem! I haven't had any ice build up since. Now don't tear your freezer apart before you try this trying to fix the compressor, thermostat etc. It may be the only thing wrong with it!
