Water does not drain from the Freezer during the defrost cycle

Thre freezer does not have a drain hose. The drain on the back of the
freeze has a very short pipe about one inch long directly over the
metal drain pan which is attached to the compressor. At the end of this
short drain pipe is a cap. This cap is suppose to act like a trap. The
cap is about the size of a silver dollar. As the water flow from the
freeze during defrost it over flow from the cap and drips in the
pan. The cap has a little water in it. This water acts as a seal
so air does not excape from the freezer.

I have the exact same freezer, with the exact same problem, the drain hole is clear except when the water freezes in it and blocks the flow. I have the freezer in the basement, where in the winter (live in Michigan)the basement temp can get to 60 - 65 F. Also this freezer is about 6-8 years old and has worked fine up til now.
