Kenmore 42990 front loading washer

All works fine, except machine will not fast spin. All other cycles (gentle agitate, fill, drain, timer advance) are fine. Wondering how to test the motor. I'm very handy so don't be shy with the directs. Last desired path is calling repair center. Thank you!

If this is a 417 model your problem might be the pump itself. There is a pressure switch that detects whether or not there is any water left in the tub. If so, it will not go into high spin. Remove the lower panel and check the pump on the lower right side. See if there is any gunk or coins in there by removing the hoses attached to it. Have a flat pan or a bunch of towells ready to catch the remaining water from the tub. If the pump checks ok, the next move would be to check the motor controller itself.

When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Will not agitate 110 92587210 Kenmore Washer

I have 2 words for you: "dog ears".

the dog aggitation ears are what cause the aggitator to aggitate. Those things wear down and not grab after time.

Pretty easy to change out. You just need to pull the aggitator out and change the 4 little plastic ears. Good luck :)

My washing machine is not changing cycles. It fills, drains and refills. It sat unused for 1 year. 12 months ago it was working fine.

Hi there. I can help you.

If this is the case, turn off the water and remove the hoses. Check both hoses to be sure the filter screens are not clogged with crud and that the hoses aren't kinked.

Washer fills/agitates and stops prior to draining

If pump works fine or still pumps out water, then it is a timer malfunction. Replace the timer and you should be fine. To locate a part number for your timer, refer to www3.sears.com with the model number off your washer.
