Compresser kicks on and off frequently

Good Morning, My compressor in my Kitchen-Aid refridgerator kicks on and off every minute or so. Starts out with a loud hum and ends up with a click. Coils on the bottom are clean and the airflow in the refridgerator and the freezer compartments are not restricted. Any suggestions.
Thank you

Debbie

How much is a new compressor for a kitchen aid refridgerator

Total repair about $500+ (average repair about $700) and would require a qualified professional to do the repair. Don't think I have seen that model need a compressor normally it's just the starter relay on the compressor.

Hi!
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
It does a lot of clicking (trying to start over and over again)
If thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
I use part no ERP410 POWER START RELAY, CAPACITOR AND OVERLOAD all in one. (110 v)

2002northland 36" refridgerator and freezer not

The compressor should turn on after it cools. It shuts down if it overheats to prevent damage/fire. The compressor itself could be bad but more than likely the fan is dead.

Bad ground some where

Hi:
There is a pressure switch on the side of the AC refridgerant reservoir area. If the switch is bad, or the level of refridgerant drops, the pressure switch doesn't allow the compressor to kick in. When you are running the wire from the relay to the compressor, you are bypassing the pressure switch. I am guessing that to fix your problem, you need to check the charge on the AC system, or check the pressure switch, and hopefully you will find your problem.!

Refrigerator knocking noise

the motor could be on the way out. Put your hand (carefully) on the motor (back of the refridgerator), if it is too hot to touch then the motor is burning out and will need to be replaced.

Not cooling

The clicking you are hearing is your overload on your start system sounds like your compresser start ststem is out..or your compresser is locked up the only way to tell is to ohm out the compresser idf you dont have a meter you can install a start kit like a Supco Pro41 or a RCO410 or a factory replacement and see if it starts up the compresser.. Have you cleaned the condenser at all ??? although this will not fix the compresser it can be a cause of overheating..The part Number you need is a 2188831 for the factory replacemenet ($22.56)the supco parts part number SU RCO410 ($15.00) the Pro41 is part #
SU PRO41 ($17.97) you can get them at your local parts house they are all easy to change or if you dont have a parts house close you can oder it on the web at www.apdepot.com Hope this fixes ya

Refrigerator makes lot of noise

based from your story. the noise could be coming from the compressor as it starts. compressor usually vibrates a lot when starting. it would last from a few seconds to a few minutes then would normalize as it sucked all the evaporator pressure down to its normal readings. you can check the rubber mountings of the compressor, you may need to replace them. also check for some tubings that may be rubbing or touching as the compressor vibrates. tighten alllso those mounting bolst of the compressor. that should solve your problem. if everything is done and still the same, the noise could be coming inside the compressor which there will be no solution but to replace the compressor. the cleaning that you did helped it a little bit because the vibration decreased a little coz it was able to breathe a little.
