I had the same problem with my riobi lawn tractor .If you have hydro static drive the problem might be that your fan to cool tranny stopped working and overheated it causing it to burn out ,thats what happened to mine so check it out you never know.JL
you have a problem in the hydro unit. probably a broken seal that is allowing oil under pressure to escape and build up temp in the unit Suggest you have a massey mechanic inspect and advise the exact cause as it will not be a one off problem
First check your drive belt, and the fluid level..
if they are good, make sure your linkage moves freely at the transmission. If it's been a while since you did a fluid change if at all, you might try changing the oil and filters on the transmission.
Jeff I am having the same problem. Have you found a fix for this yet? your post is right on but for some reason we are the only two withthis problem and my local jd dealers have never seen this. , Brent
there is a adjustment under the r/h rear gaurd just under where the lever goes to hydro unit you should see a slot and a adjustment bolt arrangement
make sure you put the tractor in true nuetral 1st then undo the bolt that clamps lever to shift arm / shaft ( this connects to plate that operates swash plate on the pump ) and move the lever either fwd or back until (without moving transmission from true nuetral ) it fits into the nuetral slot correctly and tighten the adjustment bolt - test and adjust as nescesary
check the brake for sticking and dragging. check the bypass lever, make sure it's disengaged fully. did you just fix a flat rear tire? if so, the square key that links the axle and wheel fell out. do you pull a heavy garden cart around? that can stretch a belt and overheat the trans. last thought, check the belt and see if it came off a pulley, i know that should have been first but it's late and i'm tired. good night
