On the HL-5140, you can print out a config page which will show the page count on it by pressing down the Go button (the blue button). Hold it for a few seconds, until the config page starts to print out.

To find configuration page instructions and page count tips for other printers, copiers, and fax machines, check out How to Print Configuration Pages.

Brother HL 5140 has black specks on the page

There's probably something wrong with the drum unit. I would check the manual on how to change the drum unit. Good luck!

3 horizontal lines in the page

Likely you have a dirty cartridge/drum. Take the cartridge out and move it slowly by hand, when (and if) you see lines, take a Q-tip and gently erase the lines. Work gently because scratches can actually create lines. If the problem still exists, then maybe it is the drum. Before I replaced the drum, I would reset the software on the printer and get a page count on the drum while I was at it. The utility is available from brother.

Our Brother HL-5140 is not printing. It doesn't

Replace the paper pcik-up rolly assembly. MAKE SURE TO get a good look at how the existing one is installed before removing it. It needs a little tweeking to get the new one in and everything lined up correctly.

Also replace the separation page on the paper tray itself.

Look for part number PF-1 Kit or OEM PART #: LJ7920001
The only diagrams I could find on-line of the inside of the printer I found by searching for "brother pl-prn067". Look at pages 8-9.

Sounds like a fusing error ... If your able to wipe the toner off the page its a fuser unit problem (replace fuser unit) If toner is sticking to paper but the print quality is poor , replace the drum unit  (PCU)  good luck

Tonner flashing HL-5140- will not print at all, drivers are good

If you have the user manual look on page 3-1 for Control Panel. The different patterns of on/off/blinking lights indicate what the problem is. If the toner is flashing and status is green, your toner is low and should be replaced....

If you don't have the user manual it is at this link:

see page 3-1 or page 81

HL-5140 paper jam

Perhaps look along the paper path for the little bit of paper that maybe stuck along the path somewhere. I had this problem and it was just a little piece of the corner of a page wedged in the back of the toner tray.

Brother HL-5140 cleaning page?

There isn't a cleaning page on a Brother 5140. If the smudges are about 3.5 inches give or take a little and the same each time in a line it's probably the drum is damaged. If they are closer like 1-3/8" to 1-1/2" it will likely be the toner cartridge.

If it spaces out a more, something like 2-1/2 it will be the fuser.

Sounds more like toner cartridge though.

Hope that helps you.

DRUM

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold the Go button on the front of the printer, at the same time turn the printer power on.
  3. When the Toner light is on by itself, release the Go button.
  4. Push and hold the Go button again, release the Go button when the Paper light is on by itself.
