Tv won't stay on

My tv comes on, the power light comes on, but it won't stay on, it goes off by itself a few seconds later. Is there a solution to this?

I have a brand new LG 60PY3D and it comes on for a few seconds then shuts itself off. Most times it only stays on for 5-10 seconds. A couple of times it has stayed on long enough to show a picture, maybe 30 seconds. What is the deal ?

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2007

I have the same problem. TV comes on but stays on only for a few seconds then shuts off.

  • Anonymous Nov 13, 2007

turn power on ,light comes on, then power goes right back off

  • charlie100 Nov 24, 2007

The on timer light is flickering and I can't turn the tv on with the remote or tv power button. If I unplug the tv and wait a while and plug it back in it will come on for a few seconds then shut off.

  • lpalumbo22 Nov 25, 2007

Same exact problem. I have had the tv since August. I bought the show floor tv and paid for a warranty. The tv only stays on in rare occasions. I have called the service center about 30 times. The service guy comes out, says he has to order a part, comes back and says the part sent was the wrong part and that he will have to reorder again. This craziness has been going on for months now!! I have no use of my freaking tv and no matter who I talk to the problem is still not resolved.

In a weird way reading everyone else's comments on this site make me feel a little comfort knowing that other people are sharing my pain but in actuality this just totally sucks!!!!!

tv was playing and just shut off - tried to turn back on and it clicks off - no picture or sound and red light blinks- no problem with cable, it is the tv

  • MAX9 Dec 25, 2007

I have the same problem and very frustrating because I bought the Toshiba TV model MD14H63 in July 2007 and it is only December :( I hit the power button and the power light flashes and then turns itself off. If I hold the power button down then it will stay on but I cannot change channels, raise the volume, etc. It will shut itself off again, ugh!!

How do I go about doing what the solution said? Do I take my TV apart?

  • pbran Jan 01, 2008

Same problem, next verse. A similar situation with another TV make and model required a switch replacement, but by the time I drove a considerable distance across town twice for delivery and pickup and then added the cost of service and parts, it now seems more cost effective to replace it outright, even with the built-it DVD player.

My TV will not come on, when I hit the power button the green light flashes but the TV powers off within 5 to 10 seconds.

  • madasSharp Jan 03, 2008

My Sharp 25N-S100 unit is a few years old. I've found that un-plugging and resetting the power connection to the main board allows it to re-start and it works for another 1 - 2 weeks before failing again. The main power fuse looks to be okay but, the problem persists.

the screen went black except for a line down the centre.

    screen then went black

unpluged and now unit will not stay powerd on.

it just goes on to off in less than 2 secconds.

  • jenrumbo Jan 14, 2008

I have had the same problem, where I press the power button on the tv or the remote and the little red light turns and the tv makes the powering up sound but immediately turns right back off and the screen remains black the entire time. I have taken the tv to a repair shop twice shortly after purchasing it in 2003 but it has started doing the same thing again.

  • Anonymous Feb 02, 2008

I have an RCA TV which started to turn off by itself. I looked in troubleshooting and after following the instructions the TV keeps doing the same thing. I called a technician and the guy recommended that I get rid of the TV and don't buy any RCA products. The repair costs about as much as a new TV, so, I'll be buying a new Sony TV.

After a lightening storm the other day I would turn my tv on and then a few minutes later it goes back off and I would have to keep turning it back on until it would stay on for awhile. It also lost color for a while and turned off and then the color came back after a while.

My green light comes on for a couple of seconds & then turns off by itself, leaving a red blinking light. It was working fine yesterday. Now it will not turn on & stay on (never a picture - just the sound of trying to turn on). I unplugged it from the power source, hoping that might reset it, but no luck

  • stallej Jun 14, 2008

my tv makes a click sound and then turns off while i try to turn it on. i have to attemp several times before it actualy stays on. then the colour usualy goes to black and white for about a minute. this has been going on for about 2 weeks.

i also notice the picture seems to throb a bit.

i also notice the green timer light is lit sometimes although it is not set in the on position.

i also notice that the stero indicator that is displyed on channels when switching is now displaying SAP, but the audio menu is set to stereo.

today the tv would not turn on at all. i unplugged it for about 30 seconds and then was able to power it on. obviously, i expect it to just get worse.

    any suggestions?

  • Anonymous Jun 21, 2008

Manually turning on and hear the usual doink noise, followed immediately by the same noise and unit shuts off. No picture at all on screen.

Tried unplugging for a day and re-plugging for a hopeful reset- no change

  • Ricnun Jun 30, 2008

The TV turns off in about 5 seconds when you turn it on. I've had it for about 5 years and it's worked fine up until now. Also, during those few seconds, the picture is fuzzy with lines in it, and it make a ringing like noise.

I have a samsung PCK520R and when I turn it on it works for a while, 30 seconds to 5 mins, then the screen starts throbbing and little black dashes flash all over the screen and the sound goes on and off a couple of times, then it just shuts off, and I have to unplug and plug back in if I want to turn it on again. I havn't really tried anything else.

My tv is a Toshiba. It comes on for a second and then goes off by itself. I use the remote and the power button on tv and the same thing happens. Is there a solution to this?

  • joyd405 Aug 22, 2011

I have the same problem with my Akai, it is. the only thing that works for me is to unplug it and wait a few seconds, then plug back in and it stays on. go figure. what a hassle and you can't reach anyone to ask, its based in Singapore and no 1-800 number. the TV works fine, if you can get it on. hate import items with no service number to call..everything is just a throw away now a days. it will probably cost more to fix this miner thing than to replace the set.

When it shuts off. Try doing what's called a self-diagnostic test. As soon as the television shuts try these steps. Pressing on the front panel's ?INPUT? and ?MENU? buttons at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds, activates the Self Diagnostic Code Mode. The LED flashes denoting a two digit Error Code, or indicating no problem has occured since the last Initalization. Please do Note: The front panel buttons must be used, NOT those on the Remote Control. ? The number of flashes indicates the value of the MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code. ? The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2 second. ? The LED then flashes indicating the value of the LSD (ones digit) of the Error Code. ? The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times. Example: If the Error Code is ?24?, the LED will flash two times, pause, and then flash four times. The Error Code designations indicating a malfunction, or no malfunction, are listed below: Self Diagnosic Code Description 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source). Good luck! ...Lates...

If it gets retrace lines before turning off, the extra current is shutting down the unit. May be pix tube, or crt drivers. Unplug the crt board to test, & measure for shorts on the crt board. Good luck

A class action suit seems to be the fair solution. These problems were unheard of in the past. It's a rip off to have to incur extra expenses due to manufacturing mistakes that continue to happen over time and companies should be held accountable. [email protected]

Yes ,it might be the power supply inside your tv,those parts might recieve more voltage than they require.this will need a qualified technician to findout which parts are in need to be replaced

Recheck diodes 34/37 caps and test for incursion before and between tRi and lln. If res is above or at -4 (21 xcl) bypass and replace power unit with a triennial source.

The tv has an energy saving feature that if it doesn't detect a source than it will shut off automatically. If you have cable plugged in and it's still doing it might not be detecting it. Maybe go into your menu setting and see if there is a way to turn the feature off.

Astar 30" LTV 3001 ....These TV's have a cooling problem that causes premature electrolytic capacitor failure. De-solder and Test all the 2200uF-25v, 3300uF-35v and 1000uF-10v caps in the power supply (center board, back of TV). Use a good LCR meter that will read 3300uF or better, Replace all bad caps with 105c rated caps. If you don't have an LCR meter, replace all the mentioned caps on the PS. If fuse on board is blown, also replace the F9222L regulator IC chip. Mounting a small cooling fan on rear of TV over the PS will help keep your new caps from failing again. This requires holes in the stand bracket and the rear of the TV, power can be supplied from a 14V source near the bottom of the PS board.

Remove and check capacitors in power supply board with a multi meter. All capacitors should have +/- 20% of the uf rating. I've had a similar problem with my toshiba 35". I found a 50v 22uf cap that only read about 5 to 6uf, well below the 20% window. When I unplugged the t.v. and replugged it I could here the relay click but the t.v. would immediately shut off. After ordering and replacing the ten cent cap, NO MORE PROBLEMS!

I too have an old toshiba and after it clicks on and off for about an hour it stays on, sometime the color is not good, other times it is perfect. What is a 50v 22uf and where do I get one, how much, how to put it in TV.

TV won't turn on

Before going OFF, the standby LED might blink. These blinks are fault indication. The number of blink should be counted. Count the number of blinks at one time, before the TV goes OFF. [eg: 4 blinks Power SOS P Board; 6 blinks Driver SOS 1 SU / SD / SC Boards
(SC energy recovery circuit)] and so on. you can get more details from this site named 'Electro-help'. You can reach it by searching the keyword "electronicshelponline" by internet.

1. Green power light constantly blinks and will not stop(should blink for 70 seconds and go out).

2. Green power light comes on and a few seconds later goes off.

Which do you have?

Tv won't stay on

Hello mrscarpenter,

This is a common problem with the ITC222 chassis, I would check CP120, CP140, CP150 to see if they are bad I suspect CP150 is the one that is bad. Its value is 2200uf 16VDC. It is located on the same board as the IHVT and is in between the Heat sink in the middle of the board.

I hope this helps,

Tv won't stay on

hello,

After further inspection, I believe that you have a blown convergence IC. Most posts point for two IC's. I only have one. STK393-110. There are 12 - 3.9ohm 2w resistors around it . I think they may be bad as well. The 2 Pico fuses feeding that circuit (+24/-24) may be open also.
So, with that said...... Think we have the problem cornered?

Tv won't stay on

i have seen this before and it may be the front power button being stuck and when your remote turns it on the stuck button turns it back off again. I have an older mitsubishi that will not boot up right sometimes and i have to unplug it and plug it back in fot it to come on. I used to pick up broken tv and fix the power buton and resell them
