Hello..the unloader valve on the pump where you attach your water supply and your pressure outlet hose is the problem. There is a spring relief valve that is most likely frozen and not allowing the water pressure from the pump to circulate within itself. They range from 60.00 to 150.00 depending on your make and model.

Why does it build pressure, but when I squeeze the trigger the engine stays at idle?

POSSIBLE this look picture hose coupling with water stop put on the tap side or lime in valves after long time or a nozzle with dirt close beaten
clogged nozzle on the lance

Bypass not working (lyme)
if you disconnect the lance and the handle grip is giving enough water and water comes out then the nozzle clean it with a little paperclip.25944841-me02dbjx1ofpduv3i0g3gg4u-5-0.jpg

Water pressure not that good , sometimes have to shut washer off then crank back on and sometimes its OK

It sounds like you are getting air into your pressure hose. Try just turning your faucet on and squeezing your wand handle for a few minutes before you crank your pressure washer up. This should bleed the air from your hose.

Washer has low pressure. but can see pressure build up in hose. then when squeez triger motor stops.

Hello, W/D here.

Sounds like it may be air locked. Connect the hose to the washer. Connect the wand and hose to the washer. Open the supply water, and hold down the trigger on the spray wand. Be patient, this can take several minutes.
Now crank the washer.
Best regards, --W/D--

I have a Generac power washer with briggs and stratten 4.5 Horse. I bought it 7 years ago and stored it. I started for the first time today, it started on the first pull and runs great, but doesn't pump...

I hope you did have it connected to a water line. I'm also assuming the pressure washer function is working ok. Some times the sypon tubing gets clogged from cleaners drying up and building up in tubing and passageway. Does your gun have a cleaning on/off function sometimes by twisting handle? If you have an extra hose, try forcing some water in the tubing while trying to apply solution. If all else fails, clean all solution passageways.

Pressure washer lacks pressure initially?

Dear allbusiness9,
This problem is most probably due to a faulty Spill Valve( also called Control Valve). When the gun is released the spill valve is compressed and it either closes a micro switch or just opens from the bottom and keeps the water circulating. All spill valves keep the water circulating from the bottom part. Now when the gun is pulled (opened)...the spill valve extends and closes the bottom part, and thus water goes out of the nozzel. When you work with no nozzel, there is enough water flow to close the bottom part of the spill valve. So when the nozzel is placed back there is no chance that the bottom part leaks water. When the gun is started with the nozzel....the bottom part of a FAULTY spill valve,..will colapse and pressure drops. So to fix the fault you must change the Spill Valve. In some occasions, I also found that suction valves give this problem. A faulty sucktion valve will colapse under high pressure, and lets water pass the other way round.
But in my opinion and experience, your problem is in the Spill Valve.
Regards,
Fulltech.

Pressure washer has no pressure

Try and back flush the washer..Take spay nozzle off washer and back flush with hose...If any kind of sand or deposits get into the Pump it will hold pressure valve open not letting it build pressure.after back flushing hook back up washer and before you put spar nozzle back on or start washer turn water on and make sure all air is out of washer..hook spray nozzle back up and hold it open with washer still off.when you see that there is no more air coming out of washer start it and you should have pressure.Hope this helps you and have a great day!!

Powermate pressure washer Model PW0872400

pressure washers has this pressure switches where in as you press on the trigger, the washer works and if you release it, the pressure would build up high and it would trip this switch to turn off the motor or deflect the water to the by pass hose ( if the motor is not stopping) then as you press again the trigger, water should come out of the gun again but would not,

i have encountered the problem is in the pressure switch, even the pressure went down, sometimes it wont close the contact then the motor wont run ,

if the motor is continously running, then the trigger switch is the problem, the pressure excerted on the switch is so high that even if you press it , it won't open up to release the water.

what i can suggest is to tie the trigger in the gun so that it is always pressed and then just unplug the unit if you want to stop using it. it is an inconvenience but it will work.

or, open the gun and see if you can figure out why pressing the trigger would not open the switch.

another option is you can lower the pressure of the washer if it has an adjustable pessure controller. by lowering the pressure might open the switch when ever you press the trigger.

i hopw i was able to fix...

good luck,
