My 4 year old got a Leapster 2 for Xmas from his

My suggestion would be to purchase the rechargeable battery package. ($25 -35) I know the initial investment may be steep but it is well work the investment. Batteries are expensive and if your child uses it over the next 4 years you have saved a lot more! Besides, you won't have to hassle with calling leap frog and asking for a replacement part that still will probably cost you money! We got ours at Target and they do periodically go on sale. If you go to www.leapfrog.com and go to the "download leapfrog connect" under the "support" tab, you can download the cd that came with your game system. To hook your leapster to the computer, any USB cable will work. You could temporarily use the one from your printer or other auxillary device. If you want to, you can purchase one relatively inexpensively from a Staples, Office Depot or Best Buy. Now you should be ready to go! Hope this helps.

TOUCH SCREEN IS NOT WORKING

We have the same problem and our leapster is only 2 days old.Do Touch Screen Calibration,it should help.I do it everytime for my son when he wants to play and it does help...But once u turn leapster off,u'll have to calibrate it again next time...
Just hold down hint button while turning on.When the Leapster menu screen appears, press the A button.Touch each of the crosshairs that appear with the stylus.restart unit. ..That what we do everytime.

The D pad on our leapster 2 does not respnd

It is likely the pad is dirty. You can clean with rubbing alcohol and cotton swab. or use air duster. Sometimes the thin plastic piece between rubber pad and circuit buttons can move around and become out of place.

Leapster 2 will power on but then just powers off.

In this case, either the firmware needs to be updated or else, the main control board will have to be replaced. You can try removing batteries, then press power button, then reinsert batteries and turn back on.

Power goes out (new batteries) or starts making

The item may be faulty if it is new. Otherwise some batteries are not a good enough quality to run certain electronics.

Sound is cracking

If you cannot return it at the store, then call up Leapster and you can send it to them and they'll send you a new or refurbished one. I was told this a few years ago anyway. I reached someone out of the US. It wasn't easy communicating with the gal, so I was leary on following their steps, but with a name like Leapster, they do back their products.

Pink Leapster2 beeps and wont go pass warning page

One suggestion; Place in a Wal-Mart bag , drive to the store and go to customer service and ask for a refund(if you have the receipt) or ask for an exchange. Wal-Mart is good on that. Good luck!

I can not sign to the leapster i can see the names but can't pick

I have had the same problem and my sons leapster2 has been replaced twice because of it now i am having problems with the SD card. It seems like they have not managed to perfect the faults in this product. Try calibrating it (turn it on while holding down the hint button and then press A and follow the marks with the pen then restart and if that doesn't work I would take it back to where you boought it either that or contact leapfrog direct. Hope that helps.

Leapster 2 will shut off right after the "important" screen

Are you using it with a game? Will it stay on if NO game cartridge is in & are U able to access & play Pre-installed games?

If so, it may be the cartridge is DIRTY. I discovered this with our Leapster 2. What works for us is getting a Q-TIP & RUBBING ALCOHOL, you want to saturate Q-tip with the rubbing alcohol & clean the CARTRIDGE (NOT the Hand held ).

You want to clean the computer chip @ the bottom by inserting Alcohol soaked Q-tip on each side of contact strip (the part that inserts into the hand held) & with the dry end of Q-tip go over it again, for more cleaning & to wipe up any EXCESS Alcohol. REPEAT this process until Q-TIP comes back CLEAN.

I was really surprised @ ALL the BLACK grime that came off cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck.

Batteries coroded in the system. Cleaned it out

Batteries have an acid in them, you have to use baking soda mixture to clean everything, and then check for broken wires.
