How will i know if anyone has a solution to my posted problem?

Hi Jeff, When your problem receives a solution you will be notified in a few different ways:
  1. An email alert will be sent to the email address you registered with.
  2. An alert will appear at the top of the website if your browsing the website or the next time you visit Fixya.
  3. After signing in you will also see a new post on under the all activity section on your homepage.

How do I get my $5 "deposit" back as I did not get an answer, therefore I am not satisfied?

Fixya does not charge for asking questions or getting help with your product problems. There is no deposit as you've described. If you're having problems or gave someone a deposit, it was not Fixya. I want to ask a good question on Fixya, but I am not sure how to optimize my question asking?

1 - First, choose your forum carefully. Don't ask about the best type of flea collar for your pet in a Dell tech support forum. Making sure you're in the right place increases the chances your question will be read and answered. 2 - Be specific about what you want to know. Saying "How do I fix my computer" is far too general. Asking "What should I do when my computer won't read DVDs?" is specific. 3 - Include the details! Tell us what make/model/etc of device you have, and whether its had any past problems, upgrades, etc. Sometimes this is related. If you're not sure whether a particular detail is relevant or not, include it anyway. There are more, but if you remember these three simple things you should be well on your way to posting good messages and getting good replies.

How to change your name on fixya

Sign into your Fixya account. Once signed in, click your avatar at the top right of the page and click the "My Account" link in the dropdown. On the My Account page scroll down the My Settings section, update your full name and then click save my information. Hope that helps!

How can I re-categorize a question?

Hi Andrew, You can send a quick note to the Fixya Support Team and they can help you categorize your question properly. Also note, that level 3 experts are also allowed to moderate problems posted to the wrong category. http://www.fixya.com/contact When asking a question it's helpful to select a product from the dropdown instead of just typing in a specific product name. That will make sure that you have selected the correct product. Hope that helps!

How to add a product to Fixya that is not yet cataloged

"Add your Product" Feature can help you speed up the posting questions process and viewing issues to products similar to yours. Once you add a product by choosing it from the drop down list, you will be able to view all questions regarding this product. You will also be able to follow up on your own questions. Adding your products is entirely optional, if you do not wish to do so you may skip this part. If you can't find your product on the list, please post your problem using the Ask box on the top of the page and follow the on screen instructions. When you are asked to categorize your question and choose a product, please choose the closest category (if you can't find a specific product). For example: If you have a 123xyz Samsung refrigerator but you can't find this specific model in the drop down list, please choose Samsung Refrigerators. Your question will still be visible to all the relevant experts. Please make sure that you add as many details to your question and include the model & brand. The more details, the easier it will be for the expert to assist and this is highly important regarding questions under a general category. If you need help finding your original post, just click on your avatar in the top right after signing in and click the "My Account" link that appears in the dropdown. On the my account page, scroll down to the My Problems section to see all the problems you've posted. What are the legal characters to ask a question on fixya?

Legal characters are characters which are accepted when posting on the Fixya website. If you are receiving an error about illegal characters it means you are using characters found on the keyboard (such as symbols) that Fixya does not accept. This can sometimes be caused when copy/pasting from word processing software which can insert incorrect commas, apostrophes, or even hidden characters. Make sure to type your question directly into the box and make sure to try and avoid strange symbols or characters. How will i know that somebody has answered my question or not? And even when somebody has answered it, how will I know the answer?

If someone answers your question, you will be notified in a few different ways.
  1. Email Notification You will receive an email that will let you know you have a new answer and can view the answer provided in the email.
  2. Site Notification When returning to Fixya you will see a notice at the top of the screen that will alert on whatever page you arrive to let you that a new answer is available.
  3. Homepage Notice When you sign in you will also see a new listing under All Activity on the homepage.
