Replaced battery and will not make a sound
Troubleshoot as follows: 1. Using a set of jumper cables connect the Black side of the jumper cable between to the (-) of battery and a the block of the engine. Connect one (red) end of the jumper cable to the (+) of battery...And just touch the other end of the red cable to where to mower battery cable touches the starter. *Only tap it and starter should turn over. This bypasses all switches and wiring. If it does not turn the starter, the starter is likely bad. If it does turn over, check the starter solenoid, seat safety switch, blade engagement safety switch, clutch brake switch, or wiring in between those components. A wiring diagram would be most helpful. It came with the mower, or can be found online...likely at a sears/craftsman web site, but sometimes also at parts retailer website too. Similar bypass method can be used for troubleshooting. DO NOT OPERATE WITH BYPASSED SAFETY SWITCHES, ETC. Bypassing is for troubleshooting only.
Craftsman 16.5 hp kohler gas in oil
If the machine's fuel tank is located ABOVE the level of the engine's carburettor then it is most likely a "Gravity Feed" fuel supply system .. i.e. no fuel pump reqd.If that's the case then the carb has 'flooded' at some stage (most likely when engine was not running), and the fuel has simply flowed down thru the carb and into the intake tract, and then down into the sump via the crankcase breather tube. This is extremely common on "low end" brands which, for reasons of economy, are not equipped with low-mounted fuel tanks and fuel pumps. The reason that the carb has flooded is usually caused by a leaking Needle & Seat (aka Float Valve) in the carb, which could simply be caused by a bit of debris stopping the inlet needle from seating, OR, the Inlet needle may need replacing. The reason why the engine wouldn't start is simply that it was flooded ... just like cars used to do back before EFI. Drain the crankcase and re-fill with oil, remove the spark plug and let engine dry out overnight, fit a new dry plug, put throttle lever at about 1/4 open, and crank the engine (OUTDOORS!) till it starts. May take a while to fire up, and may be a bit smoky for a while, but it should go.My advice ... NEVER even approach a lawn tractor with a gravity feed fuel system. There should be laws against them.
Craftsman push mower won't start
OOOh I don't recomend turning any 4 cycle engine upside down for any reason , i'll bet the starter won't even turn it over now, 1st your gonna need to replace engine oil to proper level , second your gonna need to locate valve (locker) this canbe ident by a small tube comming from it to carb , remove this cover and clean/drain oil from here and last remove spark plug tilt engine that direction and remove as much oil as you can attempt to turn engine over with key off by hand or with jumper on starter several times to get it moving again , clean plug with solvent and reinstall , also reinstall valve cmpt cover and tube , attempt to start might take several tries to get fresh fuel over to cylinder to fire or you might need to reclean plug several times
Replace cable
how about a model number. helps up see what kind of PTO engagement system you have... but if it's the upside down J you have to points. one on the deck and one under the dash. find both of those and you should be able to see what to do next
Craftsman LTS 1500 lawn mower - model # 917.28903
I would check the big three first of all. Spark, compression and fuel. Sounds like you have spark and fuel. I would get a compression tester to check actual amount of compression. If all three of those things are good I would check valve lash. You will need make, model and serial number of engine. If you post these I can help find specs for you. Good luck. You may have a mouse problem. Check the shroud (motor cover) to see if there is shredded paper or other material under shroud. If the mouse shreddings get in the fins on flywheel it will cause the engine to overheat. Remove shroud and clean underneath.
Belt diagram
some times they put a diagram under the foot rest of the tractor this might save you some time. Good luck
