IS it leaking gas on the exhaust or thru the exhaust. I have seen the float in the carb stick in the down or fill position and flood thru the exhaust.

Cindy: No it doesn't matter which side of the battery the cables come from... Just be sure the cables don't chafe or rub on any parts of the tractor!

I would first look at the drive belt for damage or to see if it has derailed.

The crank seal needs to be replace. You will have to remove the fly wheel.

Needs a tune up and the carb cleaned.

About a mm or .004".

Carburetor is clogged and dirty. I'd also drain the fuel from the tank and look for debris or water in it.

Disconnect it from the seat. Keep the plunger down with your fingers as if you're sitting on it with the seat, and start the machine. Let the plunger go and it the machine is running while in gear, the switch is bad. Also, you can use a multimeter to check continuity with the plunger up and down. That will tell you if it's working or not.

If your transmission is automatic on the drive axle, look for a small lever inside the frame and below the seat. It can be hard to find the first time. This lever disengages the drive inside the auto gearbox so the mower can be pushed by hand. If the lever is not not moved, pushing the mower also tries to turn over the engine making it impossible to move. With the lever moved accidentally the drive is disengaged and the mower won't move in either direction. The lever operates a flexible cable that comes out from the auto transmission.

It may have a safety lock on it causing you to not use the blades in reverse. My 07 craftsman has that safety feature.

Check the under seat switch. The switch sometimes fails and this cuts the ignition except when the foot brake is down. You can use jumpers across the switch wires to test it.

Adjust your valves.
