Ryobi 18-inch Electric Chainsaw Chain Saws - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Hello,
my ryobi chainsaw ECS 2040
If the motor itself stops under light loads, it is not the clutch that is at fault, the motor is not properly tuned or is loosing power due to wear etc. If the motor carries on running but the chain stops, that could be the clutch and it is mounted between the chain drive and the output from the motor. It normally consists of a drum which is on the driven side and a plate with two spring loaded flyweights with friction surfaces on them mounted on the driving side. If it is the clutch, the friction surfaces would probably be worn and these can be renewed by any company doing brake lining refinishing. The springs are there to govern the speed at which the flyweights start driving the chain, so they would not cause your problem. However, inspect all parts of the clutch for defects and come back to me in you need to.

Hi, it won't affect the carby which I'm afraid is the only good news. It will need a new piston and probably a cylinder. Depending on the price of these parts to suit your model it may not be worth repairing. Sorry Phil.
How to crank the tyobi chain saw expander and make
You should be able to adjust the guide bar by loosening the lock handle and adjusting the cam to push the bar out to tighten the chain, If the guide bar is at the end of its adjustment the chain is stretched and needs to be replaced, as I understand your question.

I don't know on that model number if the chain oiler has any adjustment. If it does then you can cut it down some. If not as long as the saw is cutting good I would not worry much about it cause about the worse thing thats going to happen is it will make a mess. However a lack of oil can cause damage quickly, such as a ruined chain or guide bar. Thanks

There are two levers that must be pressed to switch it on. Make sure that the sight glass in the oil bottle always has oil in it, Any thinner oil will do. The chain drive teeth should almost clear the guide when pulled out, that is the correct tension for the chain. (When this tension can no longer be maintained the chain must be replaced) Cut with the blade close to the guard and avoid using the tip to cut. Be very careful using the upper side of the blade to cut with, avoid it as best you can. Make sure that you are on sure footing when using the machine. Be careful not to pinch the blade and guide when cutting. Gauge the part being cut so that it falls away from you and the saw. Avoid cutting dry wood, especially hard wood. It dulls the blade very quickly. Avoid cutting dirty sandy wood, this causes wear. Keep hands, clothing and hair away from the moving blade. Unplug the saw when doing any work on it. Thoroughly clean the machine after use. remove the blade and clean out the recesses around the blade and the drive gear, blow or brush out these areas well.
That is about it, otherwise it is common sense safety precautions - remember, this is an extremely dangerous machine and is not at all forgiving for even the smallest lapse in concentration of care.
Need a new chain for
Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Since you did not include your model number I used ZRRY10532 for the factory reconditioned 18" model or the RY10532 model.they both use the replacement Oregon Chain S62. The S is for Saw and the 62 means there are 62 links in the chain. If you count your chain links and add an S infront of that number you will get the Oregon replacement chain replacement Part number. S x links = PN. For the RY10532 18 inch chain saw you need the Oregon S62 replacement chain.
If I got your model number incorrect, count your chain links and then find the chain you need by searching using the method above.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
I have a Ryboi ecw
Hello brown..... Two things. First of all check the tension on the chain. If the chain is too tight, it will not turn. Second, put some bar oil directly onto the chain and then spin the chain manually.
Sometimes you have to loosen the chain enough to remove it. Then clean the groove in the bar, oil it up, soak the chain with bar oil and replace it.
When tightening the chain always leave it loose enough to be able to pick it up in the middle and barely clear the bar so that you could slide a dime between the chain and the bar.

Thanks for choosing Fixya!
The chain jumps off all the time no manual
There should be a bar adjustment screw or mechanism somewhere under the guardplate where the non-visible end of the chain is. This pushes the bar outward and tensions the chain so it is not slack and comes off.
What oil does a ryobi
if you are talking about the bar chain oil (?) --- then all you need is just that ' bar/chain oil ' ,, you can get it from any hardware store that sells chainsaws.
now out here in the middle of nowhere Alaska where I am,, we just use used motor oil from our generators as a bar chain lube and it works just fine, ( not my ideal thing to use , but that is what the boss says to use and after 3 years here and using it -- I have not had any issues with our 4 saws that get over 3000 hours of use every year ).
I say -- use only good, clean and new bar chain oil.

Remove the cover on the right hand side of the saw and remove the bar and chain. Clean the oil port holes in the bar and the body of the saw. They get clogged with sawdust and chips. Also clean the groove in the bar and the sprocket at the end of the bar. Always use proper chainsaw bar oil.
