AO Smith SQ1152 Pool Pump Motor Questions & Answers
Pump shuts of when meeting slight pressure or load
This could be caused my several issues. A Amp meter used on the cord to see if the FLA ( Full load Amperes) are being draw and causing the Thermal overload to shut off the pump. The other issue could be that the windings are bad, you could have bad brushes, or possibly the run capacitor has failed. And the last thing is that the pressure sensor switch might also be faulty. it may have some debris in it and when you get pressure it\'s enough to tell the pump it has pressure and shifts off the switch.
How to replace bearings
Must disassemble the pump from the motor. The impeller has RH threads so hold motor armature (do not damage it) and turn impeller CCW to remove it from end of shaft. Hold armature in left hand and rotate impeller with right hand, turning hand on impeller back toward your body, or top of impeller toward you. Don't know how else to describe it. Once you have the impeller off everything should come apart pretty easily. If impeller is really stuck, you will need to figure out how to hold it evenly all the way around without putting pressure on blades. Strap wrench, home made jig, something that can put more pressure on it than your hand. You may want to remove the motor field so that you can grasp the armature while removing the impeller, do this by removing the long screws from the end of the motor.Gently pry, tap, slide, however you can, get the bearings off the armature shaft without damaging any parts attached to it like fans, or starter centrifugal weights. Those things can be removed if needed.Put new bearings on by sliding over shaft and seating in place by driving against the center race only. Do not drive bearing on by striking the outer race to move the inner race, this will damage the bearing.
Need wiring diagram for AO Smith Motor. Model #
Remove the rear cover and take a look. Unless this is a very old motor, there will be an indicator on the tab that will tell you the information you seek.
Normally ... let me say again, normally, a larger motor will come default 220 while a fractional hp motor will be 110.
To be double sure, take your motor to your Professional Pool shop and ask them to have a look.
I have an AO Smith
Hi,
To replace the seal... the pump will need to be taken apart and the impeller removed from the shaft of the pump motor...
The impeller threads are the opposite of the pump rotation, so they are usually left hand threaded...
getting the impeller loose without damaging it is another problem...sometimes a sharp rap with a hammer and screwdriver will do the trick....other times I have held the motor shaft with a pump pliers and then used a strap wrench on the impeller....
Sometimes I have just beat the **** out of the impeller and then replaced it....
Be careful with the new seal also, as they can break or be damaged easily...a light film of oil or Vaseline will help sometimes also to keep them from leaking till they wear in...

AOS SQ1152 pool pump.
It might be the capacitor, and have another look for the reset button, if that doesent help its off to the electrical rewinders
How do you get the front plastic parts parts off
You might be talking about disconnecting the plastic pipes. I would take a saw and cut the
pipes where there is enough free space to install plastic unions.
Or you might be talking about leaving the pump body in place, and removing the motor
with the impeller. There should be four stainless bolts holding the motor to the pump body.
Remove the four bolts and slide the motor back..
Hope this helps !!
HI there, Both my pool and spa motor won't work. I
If it is on the same circuit it is possible. It might not be resetting because there could be a problem on the circuit, possibly your pool motor or light. Anotherwards, your GFCI might be working properly if there is a problem on its circuit. I don't know how handy you are with electricity, but I would disconnect your main service and pull out the GFCI breaker and check for any shorts or problems on the circuit before I replace it. Good luck!
