Why is my arc unstable when I start Tig welding? Sometimes it starts nice and smooth and sometimes it blasts really bright and flashes me.

The tungsten point has to be quite sharp, the gas has to give constant flow relative to the tip size and shroud and the amps adequate to create a spark without immediately making a mess of the parent metal. The two most common issues will be the cleanliness of the parent metal and the Gas flow. Assuming you have all this set up, it actually sounds like you have a problem with your mask as you shouldn't get flashed at all.I had a similar problem once with a solar powered auto mask because the batteries had died and wouldn't recharge. I retro fitted a couple of button cell 2032 to the mask and it's working fine.

Hi:Probably your solenoid gas valve is obstructed by dirt. You can take it out and blow it with air or just replace it with a new one.

Can you please tell me

Your machine can be plug at different voltages from 220 to 575 V. All you need to do is change the position of the jumper links that are located on the back of the machine near the lead cable connector.

I have a Miller Syncrowave

Do you mean to say that the other 2 should come on, but are not? Perhaps you are welding using lower settings than before, and the machine just isn't heating up as quickly. Is there a point at which the fans do come on? Say thirty minutes into the job instead of ten? Maybe you were afraid to run it too long without the cooling fans on and so stopped prematurely, before the thermostat turned them on? Check fuses and breakers.

Miller 250 dx tig willnot

The inverter or control of it has failed. Unit will require servicing. If you are not electronically adept, this is NOT DIY. Do your best to check the control pedal wiring, especially connectors and the cord near connectors.

go to this website above look for and contact "The welderrepairman", he will assist you in what to do, he is the resident expert on these devices.
in my experience, this has to do with the auto-start and sense circuits, and is often a "Op-amp" or similar, however one would need a service manual, and schematic to be able to diagnose this exact fault, as related get in touch with the person above, he is the guru...

I am welding 19 gage steel. WHAT DO I SET THE

You want to set the lever to DCEN and set the amperage at perhaps 40-45 amps (this will be the max when the pedal is fully depressed). I suppose we need to know what gas you are using but I would suggest using Argon. Sneak into the melting point - too few amps is not going to kill the job, so gradually depress the pedal until you find that magic combination of heat input and speed.

It would also be very helpful to know what tungsten you are using and at what diameter. I would suggest using 1.5% Lanthium or Ceriated Tungsten with a diameter of at least 0.50" but not more than maybe 0.100" ground correctly to a point. You can use a larger diameter but it might just get in the way of seeing. I use 1/8" for almost everything.

For thinner metal and for less experienced weldors, it's helpful to get the weld started away from an edge. Edges melt faster so less heat input is needed. It might take a little practice.

One weldor could weld 19 gage metal with a lot more amps than another so a lot of it is up to the experience of the torch holder.
