I bought a Ingersoll Rand Model#2420N5 that did not have a electric Motor. My question... I have my old compressor Motor (5HP - 60 Hz - RPM 3450 single phase) and am wondering if it would work on this

Hi Johnny, Your electric motor is high speed the T30 model 2420 is for low speed compressor, the correct pulley diameter is 8", V type.

Ingersoll rand T30 wont shutoff and is dumping air out of the pressure relief valve , i replaced the relief valve and it just does the same thing when it reaches 60 p.s.i. the prv just starts to unlo

How old is the machine and when was the last time it was serviced, more specifically when was the separator element replaced? The PRV you are talking about, im guessing you mean the one on the oil separator tank? (Where you put the oil in) If so, it sounds to me like the separator is blocked and needs replacing. When the air is compressed, it goes into this tank (with the oil) it then comes out of there, through the separator element to separate the oil from the air, to prevent the oil going into your system. If this gets blocked, the air is unable to go through the filter element and just keeps pressurising the separator tank, the PRV will release this pressure for safety.Replace the element then you should be okHope that helps

Ingersollrand compressor Model SS3-E. at

Your compressor model was built with several different pumps and motors (example 2340n5-v is a V-twin two stage pump). The ss3 pump however is a very high quality reliable pump single stage with side by side cylinders. There is an air filter at top left of the pump and the pulley on the right side. When the reed valves or head gaskets fail, the pump will have reduced capacity and the discharge air will be very hot. This extra heat from leaking components will sometimes backtrack to the intake area and melt the filter. Most likely time to remove the head and rebuild. Sometimes when head components fail, the broken parts or debris will enter the discharge hose and lodge in the checkvalve at the tank (remove these components and check for debris if there are missing parts in the head or if you find high deposits of carbon ((use good quality compressor oil to help prevent carbon buildup))). Parts are available at www.grainger.com and many other dealers. Good idea to shop around for best price. Good luck

Unloader ir t30 not operating tripping motor

the unloader is made into the pressure switch. When unit shuts down you should hear air blow out at the bottom of the pressure switch for a short period and stop.If it continually blows until the unit tries to start the tank check valve needs to be replaced. the check valve is located in the top of the tank where the discharge line goes into the tank. Also if you check the bottom of the pressure switch with the cover off you will be able to see the unloader. It's a schrader valve that is hit by a small arm on the pressure switch. you can replace the schrader valve. if it's something on the pressure switch the switch should be replaced. I've seen check valves bad but very seldom do you see the unloader bad. hope this helps you.

Ingersoll rand compressor type 30

It sounds like the pressure switch is bad or out of adjustment. Typically the pressure switch is set at 175psi on a 2340. If the auxillary valve you are speaking of is on the pressure switch and is constantly blowing air from it you have a bad receiver tank check valve. Also if you are getting a lot of oil out the valve at the pressure switch you may have some oil control rings bad.

1 month old compressor has

the piston rings may have not seated allowing oil to get by. The oil is then carried to the tank with the air. After enough run time and cycles they should seat. If not and this is a new unit I would call the 800 # on the unit and talk to customer service at IR.

I have a ingersoll rand 30, srats for 20seconds

Sounds like the unit is pulling to many amps during start up. Possibilities are: breaker under sized, wire under sized, to long of a run of wire from breaker for wire size,Tank check valve bad. I would check the amps during start up and while running and compare to motor name plate information. Remember at start up the motor may pull 1.5 to 2 times the rated amps on the name plate. Also if this unit has a magnetic starter wire connections may be loose or overloads to small.

Can you put a bigger Hp and a smalll plully onit

There are quite a few variations of motor and pulley combinations. You can change the motor and pulley based on your needs, however do not over-clock the recommended rpm or the pump. Check the specifications of the pump to determine the max rpm . Usually the pulley on the motor will depend on the rpm of the motor. Check the rpm of the present motor to determing the rpm of the pump with current set-up, and compare to the motor you are considering. Motor rpm vary from around 850 to 3450 so pulley size is quite important. Good holidays
