Same Problem with the 4.5hp B.S. 21" Yardmachine Walkbehind Mower

This is what I would do... Remove the fuel tank and carb assy.. Two bolts, one behind the gas cap and one on the end of the tank. Pull it straight off the intake pipe then unhook it from the throttle link. Now, unscrew the carb from the tank. Clean the carb with a can of carb cleaner. Slip the screen off the pickup and make sure it's clean. Discard the pump diaphragm and gasket. Buy a new pump diaphragm kit, part #795083. Clean the top of the tank where the pickup with the screen fits into. Put it back together. Remember to put the rubber diaphragm against the tank and the gasket on top of it then the carb. Don't forget to attach the breather tube when you're putting it back on the engine. That should fix 'er up. Also, if the rubber ring and plastic retainer ring came off on the intake pipe when you pulled the carb and tank off, put them back in the end of the carb before sliding it back on the intake.

After turning on it began

For safety remove the spark plug and disconnect it from the plug wire. Tilt the machine back and rotate the blade by hand and make sure it clears the mower deck all the way around. Check to see if blade is tight. Any movement of the blade on the shaft is unacceptable. Tighten blade, if it won't start with blade tightened it may have sheared the flywheel key.

Lawnmower won't start

I am not having any luck with crossing the number you passed. I really need just the number off the engine air shroud just above the spark plug. Having said that. I understand you have a fixed speed automatic choke Briggs and Stratton engine without a primer bulb.

To gain access to the carb diaphram it is not that hard. The carb and gas tank are removable with just 2 bolts after the air-cleaner is removed. One bolt with spacer is near the gas filler opening and takes a 1/2 inch socket to remove. The other bolt is on the front bracket and is a 3/8 head. Once you have the bolts out, pull gently and carb will slide off of the intake tube.
Then tip the bottom of the carb toward you (STOP note the linkage position) and then remove the linkage.

Tank and carb off....

NOTE: The diaphram may stick to either the tank or the base of the carb so be careful when separating carb from the gas tank. Remove the 5 screws holding the carb to the tank and lift straight up making sure the diaphrm is not stuck.
The diaphram is under the carb and will have a spring on it if yours has an automatic choke. Note which side of the diaphram the spring is on. On the side of the carb there will be a rectangular plate with ONE 1/4" head on it. Remove the plate. This is where the choke attaches to the diaphram. Before removing the diaphram inspect it for holes in places where is not supposed to
have holes. If there are no holes visible on the bottom of the diaphram remove the diaphram by disonnecting the linkage inside the side plate. Again inspect the top of the diaphram for holes. If you find any tears or holes take the diaphram to your nearest lawnmower parts supply and get a replacement. They
usually cost around $6.00
If your carb has a single fuel adjustment screw turn it closed until it just starts to snug up counting exact number of turns from the original position.
Remove the fuel adjustment screw. If you loosen it until it is almost removed the whole assy will pull out with pliers while screw is still installed.
(O-ring type mating area) Clean the hole and reinstall the fuel adjustment jet.
Turn it closed until snug then adjust to original position.

NO HOLES in Diaphram or before installing NEW diaphram.
Check the fuel pick up tube for obstructions especially on the bottom screen.
You should be able to pass air though the tube orally. Noting the tube is free of obstructions install the diaphram by connecting the choke link on the side of the carb and install the side plate. Install the carb onto the gas tank and evenly tighten the mating screws. Then take the tank and carb assy to the engine and connect the carb linkage. Slide the carb onto the intake tube and make
sure the O-ring on the intake tube is inside the carb intake throat. Install the 2 mounting bolts for the tank and carb assy.

Test engine.
Install the air cleaner screw. Fill the gas tank all the way to the lip of the tank where the gas cap screws on. (This will ensure that the diaphram has gas in it) It should start within 2 or 3 pulls.
If it runs... your almost done.
AIR CLEANER
Take the air cleaner foam and wash it with gas until clean. Then oil the filter with oil gently squeezing it to make sure oil is evenly distributed.
Once oil is evenly distributed SQUEEZE out all excess oil by squeezing the foam as tightly as you can. Then install the foam and air cleaner.

Task complete.

I have a yard-man 6.75 hp,190cc self-propelled

This is how to clean the fuel passages in the carb for a honda type OHV engine.

Here is what you need to do:

1. Fuel selector off
2. Remove float bowl mounting screws and nut
3. Remove the BRASS Jet / Orifice in the very bottom of the venturi tube inside the pickup tube. (Flat blade screwdriver) Hold the Orifice up to the light. You should see a pinhole. If it is not clear clean the orifice but do not force anything through the hole.
4. Underneath the Orifice there is yet another BRASS tube that you need to remove. (Flat blade screwdriver) Make sure all of the holes in the tube are clear. The tube will be over 2 inches long. Clean it and reinstall it.
5. Reinstall the Orifice.
6. Using a catch fuel container turn on the fuel selector. Fuel should flow at a good rate. GENTLY lift the float assy level and make sure fuel flow shuts off. When you drop the float again fuel should flow.
If you do not have fuel flow at this point the needle and seat will need to be inspected. Fuel selector OFF.
(The following procedure is to be done only if there is no fuel flow with fuel selector on.)
a. Remove the silver float pivot pin retaining screw
b. Drop the Float down (The needle will come off with the float. NOTE the position)
c. Inspect the tapered rubber of the needle If should be pointed. If it is not pointed then the rubber tip is stuck inside the seat.
d. Clean the seat hole ONLY if obstructed. (Easily damaged)
e. FUEL Selector on then off fuel should rapidly flow through the needle seat.
f. Renistall Float and needle making sure to get the pivot / hinge pin installed correctly and reinstall the silver retaining screw.
g. Fuel selector ON. Raise and lower float checking for free movement and fuel flow.

7. If there still is no fuel flow at this point remove the fuel hose from the carb and check fuel flow. If no flow check that gas tank exit hole, fuel filter (if installed) and the selector valve assy for obstructions. Reassemble connections.

FUEL FLOW IS GOOD

8. BEFORE you install the float bowl inspect the bowl nut. There are 2 holes in the side of the nut where it screws in to the bottom of the carb that must be clear.

9. Install Float bowl mounting screws and nut. Check for leaks.

10. Test engine.

That should do it. (carb cleaning 101)

Thanks for using FixYa.

Kelly

If the above does NOT apply to your engine then please respond with the engine type model number off of the air shroud just above the spark plug. ALL of the type model numbers will be needed. Also in some cases the serial number.

My riding mower blade engages before i engage it

It sounds like the blade brakes are worn out. If you look under neath the frame, where your feet rest, you sound see an arm with a brake pad on it.
It may be time to replace them.
Go to www.precisonope.com, put your information in under OEM parts. It will give you a diagram and parts list. You can find your part number for the blade brakes.
Good Day.
