I have the same issues. I think the solution is to toss it and buy a real one from an actual lawn care dealer that sells quality brands. Yes, they will cost about $200 and up, but it's worth it to have something alot more reliable, and can be worked on when needed. I know I have wasted more than that extra $100 in time/effort with this thing, and I still plan to buy a new one. So now, that quality trimmer will cost more because of the money I wasted on the Ryobi in the 1st place.

change the spark plug and pull the cord a few times before putting it in. to get the gas out of the head. if it is getting fuel and fire. you might check the compression to see if something is wrong internally.

Key on for 5 seconds, turn it bacl of for 10 seconds, repeat that 5-6 times then try to start it. If the tank is nearly empty it may take longer.

It is possible that the timing gear jumped a tooth. Take off valve cover and check to make sure timing marks line up. Other than that check other things like carb adjustment, good gas, air filter and other general tune up things.

I don't have a diagram however I can tell you how to tell if the engine is top dead center. This should aid you in putting the belt back on. Turn the engine slowly until you feel the piston hit the top of the cylinder. That is top dead center. Also, there are usually indicators that should meet each other. Look for dots on bot drives. The should meet up as they turn. Line them up and put the belt on.

I cannot find a diagram, but using the information I gave you give it a shot. You should be able to get it on correctly.

You can go to Home Depot and for about $7 U.S. dollars, they sell a replacement filter, primer bulb and install wire. It is really cool. You put the install wire thru the hole in the tank where the lines come out of the tank. There is a small hook on the end. This hook fits thru a small hole in the new fuel line end which is cut on an angle. Basically this allows you to fish the new line into the tank thru the gas fill port up thru the small holes in the tank. Then just plug the tubes on the carb. Easy Pizzi !!!

Fuel filter to bottom of carb. The suction port of primer to the top of carb outlet line to other port to tank.
To tell which port is outlet put your finger on one port and push bulb if the bulb collapses and doesn't return then that is the inlet (suction) side.

PS. I would buy some carb cleaner and gently spray in the inlets of the carbs (sometimes pieces of the fuel lines get in there).
