Toro Lawn Mower With Toro Power Tools - Page 4 Questions & Answers
I have a toro personal pace that wont start ?
Remove the air box cover and air filter. Spray a shot of carb cleaner into the throat of the carb. Try to start. If it hits and runs for a second then you have a fuel problem, ie. water in fuel, clogged jet in carb, etc. If it wont try and run then its likely another issue, either in ignition or compression.
Does someone know how to shut off the electrical plug at the bottom of a v-twin briggs and stratton. I think this is causing my motor to smoke bad out the exaust. thanks
Are you refering to the solonoid on the bottom of the carb? That is an anti backfire device. It will not cause the motor to smoke. If it has failed the motor will not run; the solonoid prevents fuel from entering the main jet. There are several things that wil cause a motor to smoke. First check for fuel in the crankcase. To check for fuel in the crankcase, it is hard to see on the dipstick, remove the dipstick and VERY CAREFULLY away from anything flammable and away from the motor hold a lighter to the dipstick. If the dipstick lights it has fuel on it, a lighter will not ignite oil. Blow out the flame and wipe the dipstick clean with a rag before inserting back into motor. A worn needle or debris in the needle will cause the carb to flood. It will fill the crankcase and muffler with fuel. To cure this you will need to rebuild the carb and change the oil. Installing a shut off valve in the fuel line will prevent this in the future. After the service has been done the unit may smoke for 5-10 minutes while it burns off the fuel in the exhaust.Burning oil indicates stuck rings, overfilled oil, or worn valve guide seals ( valve guide seals will smoke on start up then clear up). Also leaking rocker covers will drip oil on the exhaust and burn off.
Oil in the gas tank
Not a big deal. Im assuming this is a 4-stroke push mower and not a leaf blower.Remove the air box cover, air filter, and air box back plate. Careful there is a gasket on the back of the backplate that if damaged the primer bulb wont work, part # 272653. Remove the fuel line from the carb and drain the tank. Using a 1/2 inch wrench remove the bowl nut from the float bowl on the carb, hold the bowl to the carb as to not break the gasket seal, drain the bowl and replace the bowl nut. If you tried to run the unit and oil is in the cylinder remove the spark plug ( clean the spark plug) and spray some carb cleaner in the hole and pull the starter rope several times to purge the cylinder. Reinstall the spark plug, reattatch the fuel line, install the air box back plate ( leave the air filter and cover off for now), add fresh fuel. Take unit outside and start, you may need to give it a shot of carb cleaner in the throat of the carb to help it start. It may smoke, it may blow oil out the muffler. Let it run until it quits smoking ( usually around 5 minutes) . Shut it off and complete assembly. It should be fine.
My toro riding lawnmower has sat for a couple of years without use. When I went to use it, it is smoking profusely out the exaust. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks
yes since the engine sat for a time the sealing rings on piston has rusted/stuck (you should never allow any engine to sit long time ) you can try removing spark plug and injecting some automatic transmission fluid into cylinder pull engine over slowly by hand adding more fluid then allow 24 hours for fluid to work it's magic then crank engine over a few times to clear last of fluid then reinstall plug and start may require cleaning of spark plug a few times with starting fluid to remove all last remains of fluid out run engine for good 30 min to see but it just may free up that stuck ringOr you can just use it as is but be sure and maintain crankcase oil level as it will use oil and ring may unstick that way as well
Timecutter 4235 pulls to the right
first check the air pressure in the tires make sure they are the same then move the linkage rods on the slower side to balance the speeds out if it doesn't balance out you might have a pump or drive motor failing each side has its own pump and drive motor assuming you already check the fluid level

I have a toro mower and it has same problem,my husband replaced some parts&it worked but then started same thing again,he hasn't had time to mess with it again seeings hes been working reg. job&every other spare minute been spent trying to fix our truck! Id love to see an answer for mower to help this person&us also!!
Valve breather shots out oil when engine is running
I do not think this is a gasket issue, if the machine has beed tipped up oil will travel up the breather tube and enter the air filter case, over filling will also cause this, if its been tipped it will clear if you run it for a time with the filter off.
My little 25'' Toro riding mower has no spark
did you put a little gas on the plug before you put it back on and make sure the spark plug is gagged correctly. And with the plug out and connected to the wire holding it with a tool you should be able to see sparks. If not it could be a faulty wire.
