PTO Clutch will not stay engaged. There is a very fine one page discussion on evaluating electric clutches at this site: http://www.messicks.com/Articles/FixingElectricClutch.aspx My JD tech manual, which covers the entire LA 100 series, agrees with the electrical specifications. It states that the Electric PTO Clutch should show the following:

• Resistance 3.7 ohms
• Current Draw 3.25 amps.

It does not give the air gap. It does include a note to check the PTO Clutch Key for damage or if missing. So there is a drive key between the PTO Clutch and the shaft. Additionally, it recommends checking the tightness of the cap screw. That's the screw or bolt that holds the clutch on the shaft.

• Cap Screw torque 55 lb-ft (75 N.m).

Fixing Electric Clutches

You don't. The problem is usually in the pivot bolt for the steering handles. Pull the side covers of and replace the pivot bolt. I replaced with stainless steel bolt and went oversize with the hole so I could instal a bushing. This remedied the poor design and I have had no further problems. The hardware needed can be purchased at most any hardware store or TSC.

yes hydro oil can be changed and should be at regular intervals, the manual should tell you how often and the type of oil to use for best lifespan. good luck.

check that the drive pulley to the hydraulic unit is still fixed to he shaft and has not got loose and just turning but not driving the pump shaft. Other than that you may have to check out the pump pressure of the drive unit.

Your idler pooly is the culprit. The idler pooly should have no kind of play at all. Rock it up and down if it moves replace it.

I think that machine has one belt that runs everything the deck. If it does you should have a tent ion poorly release it and the belt will slacken up so you can pull the belt off. If the tent ion poorly is not on the deck then it will be under the machine just look for the poorly that puts tent ion on the belt. Let me I know how it goes good luck.

Even though the routing is correct, have you checked that every spindle and idler pulley turns freely? These bearings can freeze up or bind because debris builds up in them. Also, if the bushings on the idler pulleys can wear, causing them to misalign. Keep checking. Also - is the belt snapping clean, or do you see a burnt, worn spot?

drop the deck and check all of the moving parts. you have a part that is frozen up, maybe a single blade pulley wheel which is causing this.
