I used my makita 18v

WOW! Count yourself very lucky. Most batteries don't last half that time. The newer battery probably has a lower amp hour rating than the first one. When replacing the battery (and you must replace it) look for the one with the HIGHEST amp hours - which is usually written on the battery or packaging. You can also ask at a Batteries Plus store if they can re-build the original battery for you- since the unit is so old, and Makita might not make replacements for your drill. You could rebuild the battery yourself,it is only 12 AA or C batteries wired together, but ni-cads can be dangerous when soldering and can explode if you slip up. Best bet is to get a new or rebuilt battery.

My Makita 3.0ah cordless drill does not drive

Clutch is part of the transmission assy - yes it is about the only thing that it can be causing your issue. It is a fairly inexpensive and easy fix on Makita - the worst part is removing the chuck.

How to fix gear assembly

You can either order necessary parts, or keep the expensive battery and buy a new drill that takes the same battery, and you'll be saving lots of time and headaches.

Replacing gears

you have to disassemble the tool completely. Remove chuck, remove battery, remove all screws holding body parts together, remove one side of body. Now you can see motor and gear box. Pull out both of them and twist gearbox a bit (just few degrees or millimeters) if it goes, then just pull gear away from the motor. Be carefull, some gear parts may drop of, so hold gearbox down and motor up. Juraj

No torque when using driver

Sounds like the battery never fully charged and lost all capacity to do so. You can get on ebay and get one or find an interstate battery distributor. Sears.com also has access to these batteries.

My 18v cordlass drill moter runs but will not

Your selector slide for the gears may be broken. If it is broken you will have to replace the transmission unit cause they don't sell the individual parts. Or it could be that your selector slide is off a little, try shifting the selector into the different positions. If it is not locking you are missing the little retention spring that rides along the side of the selector. In this case all you need to replace is the spring. Any questions please post back.

I have two Makita chargers and three batteries of various ages. battery chargers no longer charge the batteries.

Do you leave them plugged into the mains all the time? Voltage spike possibly. They can be repaired, but you need the model number in the search query. https://www.google.com/search?q=Makita+charger+repair ..

Electric Makita HP2051 chuck won't close

I don't really know how a chuck works. I use them often on a drill press, cordless drills, etc. My grandfather always said to "check the simple things first." Could something have gotten in the way like saw dust, dirt.....? ? I might suggest trying using compressed air and blow it out? You can buy a can of compressed air at office depot.
