all you have to do is initialize hard disk even if you do not have one. Just turn off the printer. Turn the printer back on and when the memory starts to count hold down the menu key until all three lights come on. When all three lights are on solid release the menu button and press the arrow back button and initialize disk should appear in the menu. Just hit the check mark button again and it should take care of the problem
Remove the cartridge. If the drum cover and shipping tape have been removed, have a look at the spring type contacts on the left in the cartridge area. Are they sitting properly? Pointed toward the back of the machine? Springing back into place? The spring responsible for this message is the larger of the two springs. If out of place, you will have to remove the power supply, ensure the contacts are clean. Look into the device at the area above the power supply. There are 4 springs that should be seated on 4 poles. You may have to reseat the relevant spring.
Printer has a critical firmware error. Turn printer off and then on. Press STOP to clear the print job from memory. Turn it off and on again. Print something from a different application. If it works. Go back and try and print the failing document. If it fails again, that app is bad.
You might want to go to www.hp.com and download the latest firmware for you printer.
Hi kgrema! I will be glad to assist you in this issue, Usually all you have to do is initialize hard disk even if you do not have one. Just turn off the printer. When all three lights are on solid release the menu button and press the arrow back button and initialize disk should appear in the menu. Here is the link just incase it does not solve the issue.

51.X PRINTER ERROR
A loss of beam-detect occurred. X description:
1 = Beam-detect error 2 = Laser error
1. Press GO. The page containing the error will
automatically be reprinted. 2. Turn the printer off and then on. 3.
Reseat cables to the laser/ scanner and engine controller. 4. Replace
the laser/scanner. 5. Replace the DC controller.
For some reason it is not reading the memory chip on the cartridge. You can run your finger over the reader which is located top right inside after removing the cartridge just to make sure it is clean. I have never had to replace the reader ever, but the cartridges many times.
Could be a paper jam inside the machine(pick up: between the tray and cartridge compartment or EXIT: Between fuser and EXIT UNIT.
ALSO could be BAD SEPARATION ROLLER IN THE PAPER CASSETTE TRAY and UPPER SEPARATION ROLLER OR BROKEN FUSER. Question? call 917-359-7432
A 57 error is a fan issue, one of the fans is not turning or is turning too slowly. In this case it is likely the fan closest to the back on the left hand side of the printer.
If you are unable to solve this problem using above mention solutions then you can try this one. Open all covers and then detach the DC controller board that is shown In picture below. it is the back side of DC controller board.
With this DC controller board you can see another small circuit bard that is attached with DC controller board with a white (ribbon) cable. I found two printers with this error when I examine the board I found that the thin print wires are broken as shown in the following picture. I have to connect these wires with soldering and now it is working fine.
If these printed wires are ok then you can check the ribbon cable .check all connectivity with Multimeter.
First you solve this problem with software.
Then try to find disconnected wires or dry soldering on circuit board.
Last you change the Dc controller board because the problem is in surly in DC controller board.
While your question is not quite clear, I will provide a couple of suggestions. Usually when you press the cancel button, it pauses the printer and then you must use the arrow keys to select cancel job and then press the checkmark. Also check any computers to make sure that they do not have a job in their print queue. If the printer does not send back a job complete command, sometimes the computer will keep resending the job. Failing all else, restart your computer and your printer. Are the pages that are printing gibberish or is it the correct print job? If gibberish, you might have a corrupted print driver or the file you are printing might be corrupted.
You need to have the LaserJet 500-sheet stapler/stacker accessory installed.
You would then need to select the stapler/stacker as the output device in your print driver. See the printer driver online Help for details.
Set tray 1 paper size to "any size/any type". print out a configuration page to make sure that this setting took. set manual feed prompt to " unless loaded". That should work. Good luck !
