If the printer status is Paused:
For Windows® XP and Windows Vista® Users:
Right click on the icon for your Brother machine and choose Resume Printing. (If the menu reads Pause Printing, there is no problem in the printer status.)
For Windows® 7 Users:
Double click on the icon for your Brother machine => See what's printing => Printer => Pause Printing (Take the checkmark off.)
If this does not solve the problem,
For Windows® XP and Windows Vista® Users:
Double click on the icon for your Brother machine and choose Printer => Cancel All Documents.
For Windows® 7 Users:
Double click on the icon for your Brother machine => See what's printing => Printer => Cancel All Documents

Scan to email with MFC 7840W
you may try to install the CD of the brother MFC-7840W on your pc because it has the capability to scan your pc. Then one's you have installed it , it will create a shortcut on the desktop to scan your email document...

The solution, and it took me a long time to find the simple solution, is to right click on your printer, click properties, click the ports tab and click on your Brother printer and click on configure port (or you can delete the existing one and then add another one). What you want to do is update the IP Address. The problem is that the printer does not have a static IP address, it is dynamic. If you want to confirm that, go to your printer and press the reports button and print out the network configuration report. Your IP address will show on that. It's really the last digit in the IP address that changes. This will absolutely solve your problem. Good Luck!
When I try to scan to file via Control Center 3, I receive a message that says:

after uninstalling and re-installing several times I decided to check the
folders to see if there was any remaining Brother folders or files hanging around. First I went to the Windows Twain32 folder
and removed the remaining folder in there - then I went to Programs files (both
of them in Windows 7) and moved all Brother Folders AND Control Center folders
to a created folder on the desktop (just in case) - reinstalled the software
and it worked! Hope this helps someone because

Wireless printer problem
Brother has posted a Network Connection Repair Tool on their site under downloads. Worked great to put my MFC printer back on line with my network.
MFC-7840w keeps saying "toner life end"
After I figured this out, it was quite easy to resolve. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum cartridge. Remove the black plastic cover on the left side of the toner cartridge (3 Phillips screws). There is a "flag", which is a small plastic tab on the outer side set to the right at about 2 o'clock. Turn the gears until you fully reset the tab going counterclockwise to the 10 o'clock position (fully to the left). Reinstall the small black cover and the three phillips screws. And the idea to install black electrical tape over the small clear plastic windows on both sides is also a good idea to prevent the early and false message that the cartridge is empty. Make sure you do not allow that tape to get into the gears.

since i finally figured this out I thought I would post this for anyone who has the
HL-4040 CN printer - or one similar
After seeing the hitting the buttons with the door open tricks for different models I tried anything that sounded like it had the same buttons my 4040 has... nothing on here worked so I just started hitting combinations of buttons with the door open - wow there are quite a few hidden menus there
For the toner life reset menu:
1 Open the front cover of the printer
2 press and hold the cancel button
3 press the reprint button while still holding cancel
- here is the reset menu - go to the appropriate cartridge on
- the menu and reset it and you're done!
FYI... Pressing the "Go" button and the up arrow gives you the parts life reset menu (drum, laser, fuser, etc.)
I also did the electric tape over the windows - which worked before the reset - but I thought this fact would be helpful too.
For anyone that is asking "what window?" I think it is the clear plastic opening on the sides of the cartridges where you can actually see the powder inside the cartridge - the color of the toner (magenta, yellow, or cyan). I didnt really know that for sure when I tried, but it made sense, and it worked. So I am fairly sure that is the "window" you should be trying to cover.

The corona wire on the drum unit needs to be cleaned.Clean the corona wire on the drum unit.

The drum unit has reached the end of its life. Replace the drum unit.
