Garmin nuvi 205W GPS Receiver - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

If you have a Garmin purchased well before 2019 dont do a full reset unless you really need to. This will reboot the system and you may fall foul of the 2019 GPS rollover. My unit was from 2015 and after a reset in 2022 the date was very wrong and nobody has a fix for it for satnavs just GPS units with an RS232 connector.

The problem is with the audio circuitry of the unit. If it is still under warranty, then have Garmin replace it again.

Turn on your Nuvi, go to Tools in the next screen you should see Bluetooth..... go to Connections and Add Device

Once added make sure Bluetooth says Enable

The Garmin Chargers use a 1A 5x20mm glass fuse in the tip.

The DC output of the charger is +5VDC @ 1A. The 1A rating is the max rating and your Nuvi should draw less than 1A under normal conditions.

You would not want to put a 3A in there because if there is a short in the Nuvi, you want the fuse to blow quickly. A 3A fuse is too high in value.

Re-install both the maps and main software through Garmin Express and your PC. Probably more than once or twice before it "takes".

Most likely a defective LCD display. If the unit was dropped, the LCD ribbon cable might have pulled slightly out of the connector on the PCB board.

Plug your nuvi into your PC. Go to the Garmin.com website and log into your account to see your map information. You can go to your account and see the map downloads and reinstall it from there. Or you can download their software "Garmin Express" on your PC. Run the software while your Garmin is plugged into your PC and it will check for any updates for you.

if it can be seen by a computer you may have a chance, otherwise... get a new unit

press the volume button, press the speaker symbol or turn the volume up. otherwise, try a master reset by holding the bottom right corner while powering the unit on. then either use it without sound or get a replacement

Go to WWW.GARMIN.COM to download the latest software. You will need a USB cable and a suitable connector for your Garmin. That should resolve your problem. Also check to see if you are eligible for a FREE download of the maps.

What are you actually trying to do on you Garmin?

There are two ways: One , hold down power button for 4 seconds and a pop up screen will ask you if you want to turn the device off, click yes wait a few seconds and it turns off. Then simply power it back on. Option 2 is a factory reset. This will eliminate any software errors but, will erase any Points of interest or anything you have programmed in it. For factory reset hold down the power button for 10 seconds and it will restore your GPS to its factory state.

Are you inside? Get outside and try again, otherwise replace the unit

Sorry but your unit is a receiver. it does not transmit a signal that can be tracked.
