Unless you know how to replace the on button, I don't think there is much you can do. You need some skills, to open electronic devices, in a way you can put it back together in one piece. Could be a spring in the switch is broken or the contacts are defect. But you have to open it to see what is wrong, so you can replace the defective part. Be aware it can be difficult yo get spare parts. Don't know what a new one with brand new maps will cost, but there are great (cheap) ones on the market now. Check that too. Success..

hi. brought this satnav second hand with no instructions and disc ( person could not find it all ) want to up grade maps and cant, got hold of seller and guess what they can't remember pin number. so can't up grade maps, how can l unlock pin no' etc. thanks geoff.

MAP updates cost money ($75-$100) and you must get them from the maker of the GPS

Dear Joe Kunec,You should be able to download additional data to your device if you have a slot for an external memory card. The best way to find out how possible this is, is to go to the website or phone up the people who manufactured your device. If no joy, check some of the other forums and see what people say, but as a general rule. Call for warranty replacement. It is a defect

Nextar is out of business and there are no updates available for your unit. You may want to try a "hard reset" on the unit to see if that helps at all.

You can charge your gps using a usb cable, an a/c wall adapter, or a vehicle charger. All need to have the mini usb tip to be compatible.

You simply need to locate the little reset button and press that for a few seconds, this will reset the unit back to factory fresh. Your user manual is below.

While using the Nextar GPS device, if you need to update the map you can do it. Generally all Nextar GPS Receivers comes with preloaded map for USA and Canada.
To update map visit Nextar.com and under product info, you will find the map update option.

You can try to unplug it and let the battery run until it dies. Then recharge the unit and with any luck it with function normally.

H, there are a couple of different reasons this will happen
First check the power cord and make sure that it is working properly
if so remove the battery and check the battery connection areas to be sure that the area that the battery connects to is clean you can use a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol to do this clean both the battery connections and the connections on the gps it'self o.k and also check to see if the battery it'self is good if not it will need to be replaced with a new one . Check the power connection on the device itself to see if it is loose or broken
Now if all of this is ok you can assume that the main board has a problem and needs to be serviced a by a qualified gps tech
If you have your warranty i would consider to try to use it ok

The request about installing the systems DVD or CD is acheiveble from an already establish stero device. Once intergated on the vehicle, inserting the DVD disk into stereo player displays result on the global systems screen from where has applications to produce searhc effect resquests.

Once fully charged, it will last for about 4 hours, if it is used without shutting down. The good thing is that it comes with a rechargeable lithium ion battery. That can be recharged once it is weak. I will strongly advice that you do not allow the battery run down completely before recharging as the battery might become weak and unable to hold a charge. So do not let your gps die before recharging. you can charge once it is low.

There must be a setting in your gps that has Fastest Route, or Shortest Distance , also check and make sure you dont have Highway being avoiding there got to be a Avoidance area, not sure on your gps but all Nuvis are that way
