Carrier 38tkb not working, but furnace is blowing
It is probably a capacitor problem. Check inside the outside unit. you will see a round cylinder with three groups of terminals on top. If the top of it is dome shaped it probably needs to be replaced. You can check it if you have a microfared tester. However if it is poofed out it probably is bad. If this is not the problem you will probably have to replace the fan motor.

The first thing I would check is to see the condensing coil is clean. Take a garden house and wash it thoroughly. If it is severely clogged you may need to remove the top and clean it with water pressure blowing from the inside out. This may stop the overheating.
Carrier 38ckc036 fan will not run all you get is a
The motor may be burned up on your fan. However, it may be just the capacitor. To check this you will need an ohm meter with a mfd setting. Disconnect the power from the unit. (if it is installed correctly there should be a disconnect near the unit). Also shut of the furnace. This is to prevent you from doing damage to the 25V circuit. Remove the wires from the c and fan terminal on the capacitor. The capacitor is a round cylinder with three groups of terminals on the top. (if it is still original) set your meter to MFD and put one probe on the C terminal and the other on the fan. The meter will read OL for several seconds and then give you a number. Check the number on the meter against the lowest number written on the capacitor (I think this model uses a 35/5 370) If the MFD is not close to the posted number you probably just need a capacitor. If the top of the capacitor is poofed out (dome shaped) It is probably a safe bet it needs replaced. Hope this helps.
Water draining from my upstairs unit
It is normal to see water coming from the evaporator coil. This shows the humidity in the air crossing over it is being removed. I would be a little concerned about water standing in the pan. I recommend you blow the drain out and run a little bleach through the drain. The bleach will help eliminate slime, mold, and mildew. It is a good idea to repeat the bleach every time you change your filter. They also make tablets that you can put in the evaporator pan if you prefer. But a cup of bleach once a month is just as effective in my opinion.
Carrier air conditioner isn't cooling the house.
Check the outdoor unit to see if it is discharging hot air out of the top ofd the unit, check the insulated suction line to make sure it is cold or sweating. Try to listen to the outdoor fan and the compressor to make sure they are both operating
Can I mix brands/tons when installing AC unit to existing coils?
First off - the 'rule of thumb' is 600' per ton of Air Conditioning. In other words your old unit is a 2 ton unit. So - 2 tons x 600' = 1200'. As you can see if you install the 2.5 ton unit - you will be installing a AC that 'could' cool a 1500 sq ft house (2.5 x 600' =1500 sq ft.). Slightly more than what you need; and the 3.5 ton unit is 'way to big,' (3.5 x 600' = 2100 sq ft.).
Note: fyi - many in the AC business will sometimes refer to tonnage in btu's, i.e. 1 ton = 12000 btu - hence a '2 ton unit' can also be referred to as a 24000 btu unit and vice versa.
So... from the above - you can easily see that "2 tons" of Air conditioning is what is required to cool the 'average' home of 1100 sq ft. "roughly speaking."
Note: it is always best to have a professional 'size' your cooling/heating needs.
One of your questions was could you 'mix tonnage?'
The answer is 'usually you don't mix the tonnage of your outside/inside units.' However, professionals sometimes do (mix the tonnage) in certain situations, and installing a 2.5 ton outside unit with an existing 2 ton inside unit is often done, however, there are some 'tech issues' here and - I would "again" recommend that you call a Service Tech to help you with the sizing/mixing of your cooling/heating needs.
hope this has helped
I need a new coil on my Carrier unit...how much
It all depends which coil you are speaking of, Evaporator or condenser if you are lucky to find a used match which is highly unlikely. newer units have has their seer rating changed substansually causing both coils to be replced at the same time and by the time that is done a new lineset is required to elliminate cross contamination so its not good news depending on required tonage 3000 to 5000 dollars installed sorry wish it was better news
My air condition unite outside keeps going on and
Is both the fan and compressor cycling?
If they are it sounds like the unit is cycling on a high or low pressure switch.
If it's cycling on the low pressure switch, it could be dirty indoor coil or filter, blower capacitor, blower not running or not running at the proper speed or you could be low on refrigerant.
If it's cycling on the high pressure switch then it could be a dirty condenser coil, outdoor fan capacitor or fan not running or not running at the proper speed or to much refrigerant (overcharged).
Unless you you know how to check these out, then you probably need to have it checked out by a HVAC service technician.
My Carrier air condition switches off for no clear
The led light on the indoor unit is a error code. Remove the panel and you will see a chart telling you what is going on when it blinks 9 times. It is probably glued to the panel. You shouldn't have had to change the contactor unless the contacts were burned up, or the coil was shorted. Look for this chart and keep me posted. We can go from there.
