The compressor is not coming

Is the fan in the outdoor unit coming on? If it is, that narrows the problem to just the compressor or capacitor. If neither is running, check the disconnect or circuit breaker or fuses that are located close to the outside unit. If the unit has power, remove the cover where the power goes into the outside unit, set the thermostat to make the unit come on and see if the contactor is pulled in. If it is, use a meter to check for power on the load side of the contactor. If the fan is running, check the capacitor for the compressor. Most units use one that works both the fan and the compressor. If the capacitor looks swollen then it is bad, otherwise use a multimeter with the capacitor check function to test it. If the capacitor is good, check the compressor motor windings with the multimeter on the resistance function. Let me know what you find and I can give you more advice if this doesn't get you going.

ON excessively hot days, the outside heat pupmp

Hello I would add a HARD START KIT to the run capasitor (if there is not one already). This makes the compressor come on easy.If the breaker trips during running time the pressures are too high, hose off the condenser coil (fins). The unit might be slightly overcharged but I would be careful before adjusting the freon at all.

Hi,
You need a niminal 3 ton compressor...the "36" in the model number gives you the 3 ton rating...36000 BTU @ 12000 BTU/ton = 3 ton...
So you need a 3 ton 240 volt single phase compressor...

Fan motor on Carrier inside runs backwards

Hi,
Sometimes a motor can start to run backwards... on an indoor fan it is usually because the air inside for some reason started the fan backwards while it was off and then when power is applied it continues to run backwards... once this happens the fan is ruined and it often will not atrt the right way even after the air problem is solved...
You will need to replace the motor and see if you can figure out why there was reversed air flow in your system...

A c dosent work,it has s slight humming sound

Hello,

Check to see if there is power getting to the air conditioner. If it is a 110-volt unit, plug a lamp or other device into the same outlet the air conditioner is plugged into. If there's no power, check the fuses or circuit breakers. If there's still no power, you will need to contact a qualified electrician to restore power to the outlet. If there is power to the appliance but it is still completely dead there may be a problem in one or more of the following areas: Wiring (Inspect for any broken or burnt wiring) Thermostat Compressor Overload and/or relay Selector switch Control board Work on these areas of an appliance may require help from an appliance repair person or other qualified technician.

Take care.

My carrier 38ckc036350 is 6

Hi!

It sounds like the capacitor and/or compressor are quitting. Try getting a Start Capacitor of the same uF (I think 35 uF for Commpressor and 5 uF for fan motor) as the one you have, OR get a Start Kit from any AC parts shop for about $10 and hook it up in line with the old capacitor, if you have a two terminal capacitor plug the terminals one, on each end, if you have a 3 terminal called DUAL Capacitor, each terminal is stamped with the words FAN, HERM and the letter C for common, one lead goes in the C terminal and the other one goes on the HERM.

Install it and turn unit ON. Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

Where is the filter on

If someone has installed a filter return grill in the ceiling, then thats the only one you will have or need. Even if the original unit has a place for the filter, when an over head filter grill is installed, the installer will not put one in the unit as there is no need. Hope this answered your question and good luck!

My outside unit runs, as does the inside; however,

Hi, it sounds as though you had a problem with the disconnect box which is the only thing located on the exterior of the unit. You have to remove the cover to get to the wiring and fuses. Probably had bad fuses. In this case, the unit is up and running, so this wouldn't be the problem. It might be several things, like you may have a freon leak and lost some, or the condenser coil on the outdoor unit could be very dirty causing this not to cool. Try cutting off the power and taking your garden hose and washing the outdoor wrap around coil real good to remove any dirt build up. Careful not to use to much water pressure as you will flatten the aluminum fins. This might be your problem causing high head pressures. Do this and see if it does the trick.Make sure the fan is running and you can hear the compressor running also inside the unit. If its not running, you will have no cooling. Clean the coil and we can go from there. Get back to me and let me know the outcome, and we can go from there.
Sincerely,
