The unit has a slide out drip tray on the right hand side. When the unit has cooled down, pull the tray out, life the item up and see if the bone falls out. If it does not move, use something like a rolling pin, or the cardboard from kitchen paper roll to push it out from the top.

It is a cheap knob. It retails for $1.04.

I thought mine was stripped, but after pulling the plastic knob off, it was only the inside of the knob. I just use a screwdriver to adjust the timer until I can get the knob replaced.
