115,000 btu reddy heater, 5 hrs used in

First, remove the top cover. Inspect for a varmint nest. If clear, manually spin the fan. If it does not you either have a broken rotor that is binding or you have a bad bearing. If it spins freely, apply power- see if the motor runs with the top cover removed. If YES, replace the top cover. Its possible that the top is binding the fan.If NO, the start capacitor is defective. The cap on R115 is internal and is not servicable.Reading material about a hummer

When heater starts up it puffs fumes then lites

Generally, if the heater puffs fumes at start up it is because there is not instantaneous combustion. What causes this?
  1. Worn nozzle
  2. Incorrect (click for instructions) air pump pressure
  3. Spark plug carboned
  4. fuel filter restricted
  5. Air leak or vac leak between the pump and the nozzle
Generally speaking, if the fuel is being delivered as a FOG not a SPRAY, and the spark is strong and properly oriented there will be immediate combustion at start-up.

My ready heater 100,000 will run for app. 5hrs

If the heater continuously has a 5 hour run-time check to see if the fuel pickup tube goes to the bottom of the tank. If broken, cracked, or shortened the fuel will stop being picked up when air is sucked rather than fuel.

Replaced rotor on my 115 ready heater now it puts

The fuel/air mixture is not right.
  • Start by setting the pump pressure to factory specs.
  • Stop all air/vacuum leaks between the air pump & nozzle
  • If the problem persists, replace the nozzle. Desa recommended annual replacement. Simply stated- the nozzle wears out to a point that the fuel is a spray rather than a fog and the fuel can't burn completely.
  • You don't state the type being burned. Diesel smells more than kerosene.

I have uk115t and when it starts up it

Most spark plug heaters have this characteristic. The fuel is delivered - to the combustion chamber - when the motor starts to turn. The spark starts immediately. Atomization does not take place until the motor reaches full rpm's.The point I'm making is that there is a bit too much fuel in the chamber at start-up, therefore the flame will run rich until the extra fuel is burned. You can minimize the effect by replacing the nozzle, setting the pump pressure to factory specs, and stopping all air & vacuum leaks. How to set the pump pressure

When i take the top

A worn nozzle creates a spray pattern, where a good nozzle creates a fog. With a coarse spray pattern poor combustion results in an off colorflame, . The photocelldoesn't like the color, sends a signal to the computer whichshuts everything down. That's the job of the electronics. On HSI ( hot surfaceignitor) heaters it is all about correct flame color , not just flame. The part where you write "If I remove the cover again it runsfine" is a symptom of a bad, worn, or restricted nozzle (generally).Remember- the ignitor only stays red for 5 seconds, then the flame keeps itselflit. The nozzle's pattern is a cone. Lift the lid & the pattern widens(aerodynamics) - replace the lid and the cone narrows & possibly distortsthen the flame goes out. This nozzle rule will only apply if everything is correct as far asfuel delivery applies. The pump pressure must be correct- not almost correct.Set the pressure with a low-pressure gauge that registers12-15 psi max. A gaugewith a higher scale just will not read close enough to satisfy the system. If the pressure is not correct, the aboverule will not apply. Instructionsfor setting the pressure can be viewed at http://reddyparts.com/pressure.htm. In addition, a fan can cause the same problem if damaged ormis-matched to your specific model. I must mention that any air leaks onthe pressure side (or vacuum leaks on the fuel line, for that matter) betweenthe pump and the nozzle will create a rich/lean mixture at the combustionchamber, creating an off-color flame.

Been running #2 diesel and does fine. Now it wont

Your current purchase of fuel may have water in it. Go to an auto parts store and get a dryer/stabilizer for diesel fuel. That may temporarily solve your problem. I'd empty the heater tank and only fill with the treated fuel. The next time you buy diesel, go to someplace that sells to tractor trailer drivers. That way, you'll know the fuel hasn't set in the storage tanks that long.

Hope that helps solve your problem.
