How much torque on the transducer mounting bolt?

I install these and other Lowrance systems. For me there is no specific amount of tourque, it's primarily your best judgment. You want the bolt tight enough so that the transducer doesn't pivot while on plane but if it were to collide with something it would pivot up out of the way.

I have a Lowrance HDS-7 and it seems that when I

Make sure it is completely powering down and you are not just dimming the brightness.
Are you powering off by holding down the power button until shutdown, or are you choosing power off from the popup menu and pressing ENT. Go with pressing ENT on the power off option. If you are completly powering it down for sure, there is probably a malfunction and you'll need to get it taken care of.

Unplug the power cable, and then plug it back in...does the HDS-7 turn on by itself now? If yes, there is a probably short in the keypad, likely due to water intrusion. You'll need to contact Lowrance support at 800-324-1356 or you can email them by going to http://www.lowrance.com/en/Support/Product-Support/Contact/ to get it taken care of.
Give them your serial number and name and address and phone number in the email to hopefully speed up the process.

Lcs-20c GPS slow with HotMaps Premium 09 card

Does the image come back by itself if you slow down or stop and wait? If not, make sure you are not leaving the coverage area of the chart you are set to. In the LCX-20, that Navionics chart is split up into several sections, if you have one section selected and are on the border and then leave that area, the map usually goes all white depending on your zoom level. If you are on a border like that you will have to learn to quickly switch the charts from the MAP DATA menu.

If the map does catch up when you slow or stop, and just can't redraw fast enough...

Make sure the LCX-20 has the latest updates which can be downloaded from http://www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads/Product-Software-Updates/
These updates often add additional Navionics support.

Most likely though, this is just going to be the way it is with that particular map and the LCX-20. If you zoom out it will be much much better. So if updating doesn't help, zoom out. Experiment to see how close you can be zoomed in while running above 20mph. If you can get a good zoom level to where the map can keep up and you can still see the information you need then you should be good to go. If not, use the LakeMaster card or go get a different mapping option...or upgrade your display unit.

Alarm says" gps module not responding"

"GPS Module Not Responding" is the display units way of telling you there is basically no GPS module connected. You didn't say which unit you have, so I am assuming this is something like an LMS-520? The GPS module is the LGC-3000? If this is the module you have, make sure that you have powered the NMEA 2000 network. The display unit's power cable has a set of red, black, and sheild wires that need to be hooked up to a 12VDC power source. There is a power diagram somewhere in the manual that should show this.

Make sure that you have the NMEA 2000 network connected properly. If it is a newer version, it should just be a single 15ft cable that has two female ends, the module plugs into one end, and the other end plugs into the back of the display. If it came with some T connecters and 120Ohm Terminator caps, then make sure you have that hooked up correctly. There should be a diagram in the manual for that as well but you just connect the two T's together like TT, put the 120Ohm terminators at each end, and run the extensions to the display and GPS module.

There is a decent troubleshootin guide for checking to make sure power is getting to the module at http://primus.lowrance.com/support/resultDisplay.do?gotoLink=92&docType=1000&contextId=426%3A92.273%2C600.639%2C92.113&clusterName=ClusterPublic&lang=english&docset=%2FDocuments%2FTroubleShooting%2FNew+Utility&contentId=42296cce-4f9b-40c8-9dcf-33d5df754009&responseId=135ccbe2cfd4f608%3A1fe88d%3A1225c5cc17c%3A-bac&groupId=4&answerGroup=1&score=986&page=http%3A%2F%2Fprimus.lowrance.com%2Ficr%2FTroubleShooting%2FNew+Utility%2FNU_GPS_ModNR.htm&result=0&excerpt=Module+Not+Responding+The+GPS+module+not+responding+(early+GPS+products+may+also+indicate+coupler+not+responding)+indicates+that+the+unit+and+module+are+no+longer+communicating.&question=gps+module+not+responding&resultType=5000#Goto92

If this doesn't tell you anything, most likely the GPS module is bad.

Lowrance LCX 28c HD with Navionics HotMaps Premium SD chip. Chip worked fine last fall but when I went to use yesterday the Lowrance would not read the chip.

I had the same problem with my handheld Lowrance Hunt C. After installing the card and locking it in place, I had to slide the card "out" toward the locking mechanism. It barely moves, but worked after that. Whenever I load the card, I now slide it out or wiggle it and it works every time.

Unit will not power up

I too have lowrance unit which is the reverse. it is powering up by itself as opposed to not powering up,despite checking fuses/lines which are ok. If you are lucky enough to be under warranty, take it back. If unlucky, you too, like me have paid big bux for something that has perhaps lasted only a few years and should last a lot more, given what you perhaps paid for it.
Technical expert advise is that initially the unit will power up by itself but now has progressed to not powering up.You may have a problem with the keypad failing. the bubble type press pad. The wiring shorts and the unit jumps voltage across the keyboard which "tricks" the unit into thinking that you have pressed the power key. After a period of time the unit problem will just progress to not powering up at all. basically the unit has ulitmately failed with time. Short of perhaps definitely stating the unit hasnt been hit or dropped, i suggest if you are in Oz, contact lowrance service in Sydney who are happy to help. they have a possible solution whereby you send in the unit, and they check it.
Generally if not deemed repairable they will replace it with a new similar unit. the only catch is you are up for X (few hundred dollars). this might seem a bitter pill, but you are only charged about a third or half of what a new replacement unit would cost. they give you an updated current model similar to what you have. Im prepared to take that option as it is a cheaper alternative to starting again and paying top dollar. Ive never experienced a power up/down and short of yelling at my son thinking he was playing with the unit, i will have to eat pie and realise with these sort of temperamental gadgets they can fail in the un normal way. Hope it helps. Kahuna 430

Lowrance Mark 5x DSi won't power up

If your Lowrance Mark 5x DSi won't power up, there are a few things you can try:
  1. Check the power source: Make sure the unit is properly connected to a power source that is providing the correct voltage. Check the power cable and connections for any damage or loose connections.
  2. Check the fuses: The Mark 5x DSi has a fuse on the back of the unit. Check to make sure it hasn't blown. If it has, replace it with a new fuse of the same amperage.
  3. Reset the unit: Try resetting the unit by pressing and holding the power button for 10-15 seconds. This will force the unit to shut down and reset.
  4. Check for water damage: If the unit has been exposed to water or moisture, it may be damaged. Check for any signs of water damage, such as corrosion on the connectors or internal components.
If none of these solutions work, it may be necessary to take the unit to a professional for repair or replacement.
