Remove the ink housing and clean the copper contacts with clean dry tissue. Clean the transparent strip which the ink housing moves along it. It looks like scotch tape, about 5mm wide.

I cant eject it

There should be a little hole located somewhere on the face of the drive. Locate that hole and push a pin into it. This should release the drive bay allowing the disc to come out. One you have it out you can add some sewing machine oil to the gears on the bottom side of the drive tray. If this doesn't fix the problem then you should look into getting a new drive.

Hello - I have the

Thank you for the details information that you have provided us about the problem, just need to know some information here like can your drive still read disc or not at all?

Because it seems that the drive is already having some issues with its lens that is due to the heavy work load that it did it the past 2 years. Even if the drive can still read some disc losing the writing capability of a lens problem and you can try to run a lens cleaner on it and see if that corrects the problem.

Asus drw-2014l1t will not burn

Spend $40 and buy a new CD/DVD reader/writer;
this is much cheaper than paying a technician to _attempt_ to trouble-shoot.

Hello i have a lightscribe

The LightScribe feature of DVD burners with this capability requires that you are using burner software that has this function. Verify that the software you are using is lightscribe compatible. The software that comes with this drive(Nero) should be lightscribe compatible. After you burn the disc you do need to fip the disc over and the re-insert into the drive so that a label can be etched into the disc. The lightscribe discs look identical on both sides so only one side you can burn info and the other side is for the label so make sure that it is inserted on the right side for each process. If you put the disc in on the wrong side the initial data burn will not work. Also sometimes burners will have issues with certain brands of discs so you may also want to try a different brand and see if that helps. And another thing that you can try is updating the drive to the latest firmware. The firmware is to the drive kind of like what Windows is to your PC. Sometimes updating this file will fix problems like this. Here is a link to the firmware of your model. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

You can download the file and run it to update your firmware. Caution: Before running the firmware make sure it is the correct file for your drive! There are a couple of variations to your model number and this one might not be the correct one. If you install the wrong file you could damage your drive inoperable or defeat some of it's features. I hope this information is of help with your problem and thanks for using FixYa.

What BRANDS are compatable w/ HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-T21N?

I hate to say it but memorex are the worst quality, the reason is that the drive's laser will try to adjust its power upward to burn the disk-optimum power calibration(OPC).Some burner programs display this . I have tried over 8 packets of different memorex media and results are poor ,one in five are coasters .I suspect memorex media will destroy drive lasers as running laser at top power isn't good for its life .I hate to recomend brands but tayo uden, verbatim and sony are good media but not as cheap as memorex but more cost effective!

Problem Reading CD / DVD

The laser lens needs cleaning.
Radio Shcah has a CD / DVD cleaner kit ($13). It is an audio CD with a row of bruches, no chemicals. It can be used many times.
It will not harm your dvd drive if not used correctly.
Read the directtions carefully.

Dvd burn

Make sure the dvd is of the type the unit is able to read. Insert a movie or a dvd that you know the unit can read. This will narrow down the problem. Is it a read problem? Write problem? Both? Next, obtain a cleaning dvd and use it. If you're like me, it gets a lot of use. Micro-dust particles and other contaminants build up on the delicate lens of the laser causing it to have a blurred or undefined image. Try blowing some canned air into the dvd slot or gently onto the lens if it's exposed. Those are the simple things. If the unit is older, the laser might be worn out, the tracking might have become mis-aligned, or a component could have experienced a failure on the internal controller board. Any of the latter, replace the drive. A top LG drive costs 20 bucks and will darn near read a dinner plate. Check the warranty status on yours--also, check the manufacturer's website for firmware updates! Some drives have reported problems addressed with fixes and patches that are installed in the programming chips in the unit. You would check the site, if one is available for your unit, download it, follow the instructions carefully, and install the update--this will not be a normal installation(i.e. similar to a bios upgrade!) so be CAREFUL if you attempt it.

I am having serious issues with my Asus dirve. It

Did you install your drive correctly? if you have multiple drive in your CPU make sure the pins is set to correct setting, easy way is to set the pins on CS = Cable Select on all. If that doesn't work upgrade firmware or check your BIOS setting.
