It could be that it is a pre-owned game, I have had problems with pre-owned games, and have bought a new game that has not been used. This is an error caused by a patch released a while ago by Microsoft. They have refused to acknowledge it so far, so most people are stuck still trying to get it to work. I find that just trying enough times will make it finally work, although sometimes it can be a long time of trying. But generally, after it reads it again, you won't have a problem for a while.

If you have a big enough hard drive, you can install the game to your hard drive which will usually fix this problem. Installing is easy. Go to the dashboard, and scroll to where you would normally start the game from. But instead of pressing A to play the game, press Y on it and you should have the option to install it.
