WHY IS FREEZER COOLING BUT REFRIGERATOR IS NOT?

Look for ice build up on the back of the freezer panel. if there is ice or snow the defrost system has failed. if there is no ice then it could be a fan that has failed. Worst case is an inneffiecient compressor.

Many of frost-free fridges use fans to move a controlled amount of air into the upper or side cooling chamber, check for non-working fan or a stuck or malfunctioning damper control. Keith L.

My freezer keeps stoping for about 40min every 6-8

Sounds like a defrost timer may be wearing out. When this happens sometimes the timer sticks in the defrost lobe on its cam . You will need to find the model number and then click here=> Whirlpool User Manuals and Part Manuals This site also has the parts manual for your model with part numbers on each following page. I will be here to assist you or HERE if needed, Thank You, Sea Breeze

I have recently purchased a Whirlpool Gold

hello cathy, Depending on where the actual snow is located if it were against the rear freezer wall then you would have a defrost issue in which either the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, the defrost timer has a fault these parts can be checked by doing a continuity test on them with a multimeter to assure they are functioning properly. If you can message me back the model number i can most likely find your schematic for your machine and point out where each piece is located. On some newer units they do not have a defrost timer instead they have a adaptive control board which takes the place of the timer before you do any checking of these parts it is most important to also assure that you have no rips or tears in the freezer door seal. although if you did you would see the ice build up more towards the door instead of on the rear of the freezer wall. If you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations in the future Thanks Rick
p.s you would have to remove the screws that hold the rear panel in the rear of the freezer which would give you access to the evaporator coil and the defrost thermostat and the defrost heater if when you do remove the panel you see the evaporator coil with ice build up on it you would have to defrost the ice with a hair dryer and then conduct your tests this ice build up is a definite sign of a defrost issue Thanks again I await your reply Rick

Clogged drain plug whirlpool imperial

The drain in the freezer behind back lower panel
needs opening. You can see it at the bottom of the back panel
underneath the evaporator coils. (The cold coils)
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
When the defrost melts the water it goes down the drain
If the drain is clogged with Ice or ? The defrost water
overflows into the ref. or freezer or on floor
Run Hot water in the drain until it clears or use a hairdryer.
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath

Whorlpool refrigerator over heated and not cooling

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.

Sounds like the cold control has stuck . Unplug the two wires from the cold control and plug them together. Turn one wire over and plug it into the other. away from the cold control.
The cold control is the knob in the ref that turns it on and off and has numbers on it. (Thermostat)
If it runs then that cold control (Thernostat) is the problem.
If that doesn't work DO THIS:
The relay on the compressor may need replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
also try hooking the two wires together on the cold control to route around the cold control.
Be sure the BACK COVER is in place and hasnt been accidently removed.
