You can send it out, most any TV shop can replace it. If you have some electronic knowledge you might be able to do it yourself. Phillips is a private label for Funai. They private label A LOT, in fact you will rarely see a Funai labeled item.The reality however is you can probably purchase a new TV for the same price as repair, or even parts. Keep an eye on sites like bensbargains.net, dealspl, fat wallet and the like.You will have a NEW set, perhaps more UTD then your old one, a new warranty, perhaps more features. e.g. I purchased a new 42" Sharp from Best Buy last Summer for $350. Today it's probably even less.

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!

I'm assuming that you have checked that the sound is not muted. To confirm that a reset to factory settings is the next procedure: Menu - Setup - General - Factory settings. If you don't see/hear any modifications then it's a hardware defect, not something with the settings.
This happens when the tv thinks that the headphones are used. Simple test to confirm that: plug in a pair of speakers and see if you get the sound on them. If you get and the situation doesn't changes when you unplug them then this is a mechanical defect: the small switch inside the headphone jack is faulty and keeps signaling that the headphones are plugged in when they are not.
The only way to fix that is to replace the jack, which involves a very delicate soldering procedure , one that only a good repairman can do - you must call one.
