Unrecognized, locked or non functional SD cards can experience many types of issues due to severe damages and or tiny cracks. When a card is plugged in to a reader and not registered or not registering correctly you might then experience lost files you badly need recovered. eProvided is developing tools to help those people that are having issues with loosing data on SD cards. There is a sense of desperation these days in dealing with damaged and lost data on all SD's. We are at about a 45% success rate no matter what has happened to an SD or microSD. Many of them are reported as the wrong size, many are not recognized and some have obvious issues such as breaks, cracks etc. No matter what others say anywhere there is hope for you all that have major issues. SD cards are considered monolith devices (monolithic). USB sticks and regular SD cards these days can be made with NAND wafers or a complete package, what we call in the industry a monolith storage device. We can get inside these devices by taking off layers with special machinery and we also can use many other options to get around the damage. deleting files on sd cards is the same a deleting any other file on a computer as long as the media is not protected against file deletion or file altering

usually sd cards as you used to find also in old floppy dics, have a tab or switch you need to set accordingly to allow file overwriting. inspection the sd card and make sure that the tiny switch or lock is in the off position, reinstall sd card in the reader or sd card drive and attempt to delete files by selecting them and hitting the del key or simple selecting them and right clicking to then select delete.

if the tab is in the off position try it in the "on" position and see if deletion can be accomplished. if neither works your sd card may be defective. contact the provider and have the warranty honored accordingly in within the warranty terms.

according to me, it must be password protected, or ur pc does not support that type of pics, another reason may be that ur pc does not allow external drive to be shown on desktop, hence for this, you can change settings in compoter, or if card is passwd protected ,insert password or format it if u forgot it by backing up the data http://www.tinyurl.com/9307740

My apologies if this message finds you long after posting this problem , but I am currently working through a backlog of problems that never got answered and hopefully this info can still be of use if not now possibly in future.

Please download Disc Digger HERE. This is a free tool you can use that works very well and there is no installation required, just run the program once you downloaded it.

Once you have connected the memory disk / hdd to the computer , run the program.

On the program , select the dig deep option for accidentally deleted files or dig deeper for a formatted drive. Then select the disk you want to do the recovery on and run the program.

The data will be displayed and you can recover it from there. This will only work if the card has not been used since the data was lost. Save the files to a location on the computer hard drive and not back to the disk it is recovering from as this will overwrite the other pictures that still needs to be recovered.

Some of the properties of the files may become lost in the recovery but the pictures should be fine.

You will also only be able to recover certain file types using this method.

Mini SD cards, or MicroSD cards, are used in digital cameras and portable media players to house digital media files. MicroSD cards can house anything from 2GB to 32GB of information. A write-protection feature gives the owner the ability to lock the MicroSD card to keep their files secure. If you have a MicroSD card that is write-protected, you can un-write-protect it with a flip of a switch. Insert your MicroSD card into the adapter that came with it. Put the data side of the MicroSD card into the data side of the adapter. Look for the write-protection switch on the left side of the SD adapter. Flip the switch to the side that reads "Off." Remove the MicroSD card from the adapter and replace it in the device you were using it with. or you might Feel along the lower right and left sides of the Micro SD card to find out if it has a built in write protection switch. Move the switch over to the "On" position to turn on the write protection feature. Check the front ports on your computer and see if it already has a built in card reading unit. Close the window and then double-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop if you want to enable write protection for every file on the Micro SD card. Right-click on the name of your Micro SD card in the list of computer drives. Click on "OK" and then close the window. Click on "Properties" and then navigate to the "Security" tab. Scroll down to the heading labeled as "Permissions." Click on "Deny" under the "Write" section.

Be careful: Before your pictures are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Try the 4GB card in some other reader, or your camera, to confirm that it does work.

It's possible that your card-reader will not support anything over 2GB.

With regards to your problem with Kingston 4Gb memory card, I am happy to share to you the following diagnosis:

1. Make sure that your memory card is not damage. Upon buying you need to test it;
2. Maybe the memory card is not properly formatted as NTFS or FAT32 depending on the machines' specifications but usually this particular storage device must be formatted into FAT32; or
3. It happens that your PC and camera couldn't recognize the card because maybe the card reader of both gadget were damage and definitely will require to buy a new one.

Take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones. Now after you've recovered your photos, consider formatting the card in the camera to prevent this from happening again.

connect it to your computer Click start control panel Administrative tools Computer Management Disk Management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes Automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in one box then select check now start then after its finished return and tick the other box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive. You might get best results ticking in one box the returning after it has finished then ticking the other box it might take some time depending on the of your disk but be patient. Hope it helps.

Check write protection on side of card. Plus, was the card formatted on a MAC or Linux? Window and most devices use FAT or FAT32 formats.

Put the camera to play back setting for pictures, then in the menu select format the memory card.

Probably, especially if your card is a 4GB or larger SDHC card, then it's definitely the wrong card. The older Digimax S800 camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less). Fortunately, these are very inexpensive these days, and may be found on Amazon if your local store no longer carries them.For others reading this experiencing similar problems, please see this article.

If your memory card is 4GB or larger, AND if your computer is two or more years old, your computer's card reader might not be able to read the newer 4GB SDHC card. In that case, just purchase an inexpensive USB card reader from WMart, or Amazon (here's an example). Try a different card reader first to see if you can directly copy and paste the pictures from the card onto your hard drive. If the new card reader doesn't see the files, then try recovery software. Here's some freeware to try. If the software still doesn't see the card with the new card reader, you may next need to try the corrupted card procedures described at the bottom of this linked article.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

It sounds as if you have an SD card reader, not an SDHC card reader. While SDHC cards will fit into SD slots, they are electronically incompatible and will not work. SD devices are limited to cards 2GB and smaller. SDHC cards begin at 4GB and go up to 32GB.

Two things to try:

1:see if you can slide the lock switch to the middle and leave it there

2: Tape a small piece of brown package tape across the switch, keep doing this until it works. Mine took 3 pieces, but it works every time.

be careful, it may get stuck in unit. have tweezers ready.
