Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator - Page 7 Questions & Answers
Kenmore side by side icemaker not working after power outage, but water at door dispencer
Pull the machine out and remove the lower back cover. Locate the water valve. With the water turned on and connected remove the 5/16" water line (the bigger one) and then have someone else press the water in the door. If the cylinoid is operating correctly it should spray water out. If it is not operating properly it should at least hum and vibrate. If that does not occur your problem lies elsewhere. As far as the smaller line (1/4") you have to manually advance the ice maker and wait for it to call for water with the 1/4" line disconnected from the valve. You can do this by getting a jumper wire, removing the cover of icemaker, which you jsut grab and pull off, and using the jumper wire insert one end of the wire into the cirle marked m and the other in the cicle marked n. Leave there until you hear a click and sometimes see a little spark behind the modular head wheel. Also if you see ice in the maker that hasn't dumper and the teeth of the icemaker are facing any direction other than two o clock position, the icemaker is bad. Also check the fill tube to be sure the no ice is blocking water from coming in. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at

Whirlpool refrigerators as well as the other brands that fall under the corporation most like at some point within the first five years will stop cooling and freezing, and the sound you here will be either a humming follow by a click or in some cases just the click alone. This is caused by the start device on the compressor. The relay part of it has basically burnt, fell apart inside, however you want to describe and is not passing the power to the compressor to come on. To access this pull the refridgerator out from the wall, and first and foremost unplug it. Once that is done remove the lower panel, sometimes cardboard sometimes metal which is held up by a few quarter inch screws. Place to the side and located the compressor. The box on the side is start device, it will have 2 or 3 wires going to it, most of the time red and white respectively. Also they maybe a black box thats connected to the start device and sits horizontallty. Thats the capacitor. Keep that if your going to do the repair yourself. I recommend doing it because its very easy and will save you alot of money. You can buy this part at www.repairclinic.com or at www.apdepot.com just be sure to have your make and model number handy. Replace door water dispenser plastic tubing
The line going into the dispenser is a 5/16 line. You'll have to remove the front of the dispenser on the door to get access to the line to unclip it. Once you have that done you can pull the line out from the bottom. At this point there are a variety of different unions, compression fittings, etc. to splice the line. After that you just feed the line back through the bottom of the door, clip it back in place, put the dispenser back together and your done. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at

Top of freezer is 50 degrees bottom is -20
you do not have a evap fan or your evaporator is frozen. hold the light switch closed and listen for fan. if you do not hear a fan then replace it. you will have to defrost freezer also.
Kenmore elite side by side hot panel and food freezing in vegetable drawer
That is a very bad sign, but before you unplug it pull the machine out from the wall and check to see if it feels hot back there as well. Then remove the lower cover and find the condersor fan motor. Its the only fan back there. I'd willing to bet that the fan is not running. The purpose of the the fan is draw air across the compressor and blow it through the condensor therefore lowering the temperature on both parts. When its not working/ running, the heat from the compressor and the condensor is pass onward to the machine and the machine then acts as a heat sink. Also, if the machine is too close to the wall or the condensor coils are dirty you'll get the same effect, so be sure to check those things out as well If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at

Kenmore refridgerater
HI. STEVE.most pipes have a connector under the bottom cover.disconnect and feed through the inside of door after removing front cover of the dispenser.good luck ali.
What would cause my evaporator fan to stop working?
If everything else in the fridge is working, compressor, condensor fan, lights, damper, etc... change the fan motor. I have found this motor to go bad (have an open winding) more times than not. If you want to double check you can check with a meter to see if you have 120V going to the fan motor and if you do well then again you still have a bad motor.
Fix Icemaker
Note that the temperature in the freezer must be below 10 degrees F for the icemaker to cycle. The icemaker line is the smaller line (1/4") located in the back of the machine that runs from the valve to the filll tube. To test the valve and icemaker you have to manually advance the ice maker and wait for it to call for water with the 1/4" line disconnected from the valve. Leave there until you hear a click and sometimes see a little spark behind the modular head wheel. Also if you see ice in the maker that hasn't dumper and the teeth of the icemaker are facing any direction other than two o clock position, the icemaker is bad. Before doing any of the above though check the fill tube to be sure the no ice is blocking water from coming in. If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at

Leaking water of my refrigerator
If the water is showing on the freezer side, more than likely you have a clogged drain. This occurs when the machine goes into defrost and the melted ice somehow is prevented from draining and therefor refreezing and blocking the drain for the next defrost cycle. The best way to resolve this is to unplug the machine for atleast 24-48 hours to let all ice melt. If thats not an option that you want to use the actual repair method would be to 1) unplug the machine 2) empty everything out of the freezer so you'll have room to work 3) take all the shelving and baskets out 4) locate the screws on the rear wall inside the freezer and remove them 5) take the back panel off exposing the evaporator coils ( the aluminum ) 6) directly below the coils is a trough of sorts and the drain is usually in the middle and runs out the bottom, remove the ice by carefully chipping it out or by using a hair dryer or hot water. 7) once all the ice is gone, the drain is visible and water can flow smnoothly down the drain dry the area and reassemble. Water is on floor from time to time, but i never see any water in the drain pan
I would check and see if the water is coming from inside the frreezer. Open the door and look at the freezer floor. If you see ice there than your drain is blocked, most likely with ice, and not letting any water drain down to the drain pan.
If the water is showing on the freezer side, more than likely you have a clogged drain. The best way to resolve this is to unplug the machine for atleast 24-48 hours to let all ice melt. Also note on the maytags these days they put a rubber piece called a duck bill on the bottom half of the drain which will also cause this over time. To access this piece you'll have to pull the machine from the wall and remove the lower panel and find the plastic drain and remove the duck bill If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at
