Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator - Page 2 Questions & Answers
I have a kenmore refrigerator with a water filter at bottom of the grill it has a new filter but the streamof water is weak ice maker works well?
There may be algae contamination of the system. Disconnect the water supply and run in a mixture of 2 tsp of Baking Soda (bicarbonate of soda) in 1 cup of water through the line, from tap connector to dispenser. Leave the solution sitting in the lines for 1/2 hour prior to flushing with clean water and removing any ice made with the solution. Bicarbonate of soda is great for destroying cell walls of plants and fungi (algae, mold etc) and removing smells.
White vinegar is also hostile to algae, and doesn't leave a lingering smell, but bleach should be avoided, or used very sparingly, in systems used to supply water for consumption by people or pets.
Installed new icemaker still not making ice
Some icemakers have to be turned on inside the Freezer at the Icemaker itself, it might be as simple as a small on/off switch or a lever that completes the curcuit to the solenoid that allows the tray to fill. Remember: None of that will matter if the Ice Tray "Overfull" Safety Bar is in the Up position because that is a Safety switch that shuts OFF Power to the Icemaker. For You Novices... That's the bent silver Wire rod thingy that hangs over the Ice Bin/bucket deal. Simply grasp it and see if it will move down a bit, gently. If it moves freely, downward, You should hear the Icemaker start working! WARNING: Don't use the first few batches of Ice, after the second or third cycle, it should be pretty clean.
Why is there ice buildup at back of freezer
You probably have a blocked drain line. The drip tray located under the cooling coil in the freezer has drain line attached that is blocked with debris. Some models have drain tube heater also, which may have failed.
How do I change the ice maker water line?
Kenmore is a product from Sears. Therefore I would go into your nearest Sears store and pick up a water line replacement kit. It should come with everything you need as well as some instructions. The instructions will be fairly generic, meaning not necessarily exactly for your specific model of refrigerator, but otherwise should be adequate to get you going. You will need some basic hand tools, such as a pair of pliers or a small crescent wrench. Be sure to turn off the water supply before attempting this. Also have some towels handy as there'll still likely be some spillage.
If by chance your old water line is COPPER, then you may not be able to replace it yourself, as you may need a flaring tool. Also when tightening the connections on a copper line be sure to use two wrenches, one of which is to hold the connector you're hooking the line up to, otherwise you could damage either the fridge or the wall spigot (or both). Just me personally, but if it's a copper water line, I'd leave it to a pro.
Kenmore icemaker tray leaking water (model 795.51022.012)
Do the old 'KISS" thing first (keep it simple ......thing). Chances are that there are tiny calcium deposits in the ice tray which makes an ice cube stick in the tray. If one ice cube sticks, the water will overflow as it needs all the trays empty for the filling. The water will drip down into the freezer area causing chunky ice and stalagmites. The calcium deposits are very teeny in size but will hang up an ice cube from dropping. If more than one ice cube (basically all the ice cubes) didn't drop then the heater in that unit that initially gets the ice cubes to drop could be bad.
I've taken the ice cube assembly out and used vinegar with baking soda to dissolve the calcium and that worked. I left it in for a couple of days. "Do NOT" use anything like a knife or whatever to scrape the bottom of the tray as it will destroy the finish and keep the ice cubes sticking.
When I had the warranty service come out, the technician explained what happened to the tray (calcium). He replaced the tray but the next time it happened I used the vinegar and baking soda. I eventually bought a new tray for 1/2 the price on the internet when the problem happened later on in life.
Frost builds up on outside of ice maker
The little door that opens and lets the ice fall into Your cup is not closing all the way, allowing cold air to escape from Your Freezer and causing frost to build up. Simply look up at it or open the Freezer door and place a lit flashlight in the ice chute so You can see where the light is shining through the ice dispenser at. There should be a build-up of ice there that is keeping the "trap door" from closing all the way. Clean that off and You should be as good as new.
What is the mormal temperature swing of a Refrigerator?
What you call temperature swing, is hysteresis. For a refrigerator it only is allowed a few degrees. 1 or 2 up and down. A swing from 32 to 45 is far to big. Unless the factory can prove they advertise these figures. I would never buy a frig like that.
I would contact the dealer and ask him / her to replace the thermostat and if that is not possible to bring another refrigerator.
Something is really wrong with yours.
Why does The freezer side stays cold but the refrigerator side gets warm
Your problem is more than likely a defrost issue. There is ice building up in the freezer coils and when it gets blocked with ice the cold air cant blow into the fresh food section. When you shut it off the ice melts and it gets cold again for a few days. remove the freezer back panel and check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. if they check OK then check the defrost timer. It is best to replace all three components at the same time. This way you will be starting out with new components rather than one failing then the other.
Why is my icemaker not working on Sears Kenmore 50562991
Two of my refrigerators stopped making ice because of frozen water lines going to the ice maker inside of the freezer door. I thawed the lines by unplugging the refrigerator and used a hair drier around the ice maker till all the frost was gone. After I plugged it in I heard water going to the ice maker. If you remove the ice bin you can check the ice tray to see if it has ice in it. If it is empty it is not getting water. It could also be a bad Solenoid Water Valve.
