I am trying to connect
I had basically the same problem with my JVC receiver. It would not work on the DVD HDMI input but worked on the auxiliary HDMI input with my PS3. You might want to try that and see if it works for you.

I have a Pioneer VSX-917V.
If new unit, don't waste your time, sounds like a faulty "Sound Card". possibly a slight hairline crack which only shows up when it warms up, yet after a few mins switched off, cools reconnects and so plays?

I used to get OSD
did you happen to change to cable connecting the Reciever to the TV to an HDMI?
please note that the OSD will not appear if you have connected using the HDMI output to your TV.
Use component, S-video or composite connections for system setup.

Hello check the Speakers first, Try unplugging all speakers one at a time and turning on the unit, do this until the the overload stops,When and if you solve which one is causing the problem, reconnect the bad speaker by it self to confirm it was the one causing the problem as it will go into overload again. Also make sure no wires are contacting each other at the speaker output terminals. Even one thread of wire touching each other if not using (Banana plugs) could cause the Overload circuit to activate. Also try unplugging all the speakers and turning on the unit to see if it goes into overload. If so then service is needed on the audio amplifier Circuitry.
