I recently purchased 2 older coleman roof a/c units. It seem neither ones compressor comes on to provide cold air. Fan motor work fine but when I set the fan speed selector to A/C low or high speed and adjust the temperature selector up or down, the compressor does not come on. What can I do to troubleshoot these units. Could you please lay it out in a step wise format (i.e. check this first and how, then check this and how, etc.). I am a jack of most trades and a master of none, but I am willing to try and most importantly, eager to learn. Thanks, Shawn
Here is a link to the manual for both units,It can be viewed online, save to pc,or printed.
Please rate this a fixya

Wires burned in RV fire. Wires are good about one foot from unit. One wiring harness with six wires, green, black, white, purple, yellow, red. I need a diagram for wiring and am going back with a hunter thermostat that will handle both heat and air.
Motor1258,
Thanks for the response, to be more specific, the nine pin connector was damaged, but I was able to connect the wires back to main unit panel. I am ready to hook to the hunter thermostat and do not know which wires to connect to. This is my problem and I do not want to short something out. Hope this helps, I want to get it installed again. Thanks again for caring....Jerry

coleman model #8335c8765, how can I test the compressor at the unit. The unit has not heating side, and when I accidentally switched the t stat to heat the lights pulled down and then came back up,(shorted)...now fan works but not the compressor won't kick on. Neither in auto or cool position.....
You should be able to hear the compressor kick in. If you don't the most likely culprit is the capacitors. I generally keep spare capacitors on hand at all times, because they are mostly likely to fail on a holiday or a weekend when it is 102 in the shade. If replacing the capacitors doesn't work, you want to look at the thermostat. You will have to look up manuals and testing for your thermostat. And if those things doen't solve your problem, sadly and lastly, you will want to do troubleshooting on the control module in the ceiling. The control module generally resides in the ceiling and you access it through the vent in the ceiling.
Here is where you can find manuals for your a/c unit. Click on the links under the tab for technical information. Airxcel RV Products Good luck!

RV ac fan runs backwards (blows out air on top of RV.) Runs correctly sometimes but after it satisfies and clicks off when it kicks back on, it runs backwards. The only thing that will turn it back around is to turn off unit and wait for around 30 minutes and turn back on. (won't reverse motion very quickly) Spoke to Coleman expert and was told it is the fan capacitor. Need instructions to identify and change the capacitor. Would like to fix myself since this will be the 3rd time to have it in the shop and it hasn't gotten fixed yet. Already had the control panel changed and it didn't fix the problem. Most mechanics don't have a clue what the problem is and say never heard of this problem before. It is on a 2004 Wilderness Advantage 5th wheel. Help!!!
Hi, this is strange as I have never heard of this either!!! The capacitor is located by the motor and sometimes clamped to the motor. They can be the shape of a very small can, oval 3" tall with 2 leads on top with wires coming off the terminals. It could be chrome in color, or made of hard plastic. It may have 3 terminals on top, with several spade connectors on it.When you find it, mark all wires and draw a picture or you will not remember how it hooked up.Try and get the same one. Keep me posted and I can help if you need more. Strange thing going on here??

My coleman rv ac unit is dripping condensation inside the camper, what is causing that?
It is possible that the drain hole on condensate pan is plugged and causing water to over flow pan. Remove cover from unit and check drain line.Clean coils andpan as best you can and clear drain hole. Add a small amount of bleach to water in drain pan. This will kill any algea or bacteria that may be growing in condensate water and plugging the drain. Thank you

my coleman mach air conditioner won't turn off by the controller. I have to turn the circuit breaker off to get it to stay off. The controller works with the heater just fine. What could this be?
Sounds like the contactor that controls the compressor and fan is sticking. You will have to remove the top cover to get to it. It will probably be in a box after you remove the cover. Turn the power off and see if it is still pulled in. If you can get it unstuck then it may work, otherwise you will need a new one.

Sounds like its coming from the motor but im not sure. Its a loud squealing inside the rv, and it comes for 5mins and then stops for 3mins the entire time it is on. Miserable. Help please.
Our AC did this and needed bearings replaced. Cost $10 dollars to fix it. Husband did the work. Took him less than an hour to replace the bearings.

i have a 2006 tradwind model 40E with a colman-Mach ac with electric heat and all i get is cold air. I can't seem to find where the fuse is at so i can check if it is blown or where the heater element is located, PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SHARE WITH ME
The fuse is a 110 volt breaker in your service panel. If your heat comes from the heat strip it is inside of the ac in front of the evaporator. If it is a heat pump thats the the compressor. To create heat the compressor runs in reverse. There is a directional relay operated by the circuit board and thermostat to tell the ac what you are calling for, heat or ac. The heat strip is connected to the circuit board and is also operated on 110 volts. You have one of three problems. Breaker tripped, bad heat strip, bad circuit board. Possibilities, find the heat strip cable and unplug and plug it back in a few times, maybe lost connection. That happens at times because of the warm and cold elimates. The heat strip can be tested by takeing it out and bench testing it with 110 power. circuit board can be checked by use of a volt meter, turn the ac to heat and check the pins where the heat strip plugs in. To chech the heat pump you must go up top, remove ac cover and with an amp clamp find the wires going to the compressor and put the amp clamp on one wire only. Amps should be no more than 7 amps. If it is the compressor is shot. If there is no reading then the compressor is not running. Now you may have a bad capacitor which is up top under a sheet metal cover. They also can be tested with a VOM. You will find 2 or 3 capacitors depending on model. Run and start. Capacitors typically are charged with 370 to 600 Volts. They will knock off the top of your camper. BE AWARE OF THE FACT YOU ARE DEALING WITH 110 VOLTS. IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR OR COMFORTABLE GET SOME QUALIFIED HELP. GOOD LUCK
