Check circuit breaker and reset it if appropriate. Also check the fuse. It is possible that you could have tripped a circuit have way through the cycle. Make sure the door is properly closed. Ensure you have chosen a cycle on the dishwasher. It is amazing the problems children could accidentally cause, that are easy fixes.

If you notice the dishwasher is dead, then most likely the thermal cut off has triggered. This is to prevent the dishwasher when there is an overheating of the heater or the motors.

This sure sounds like a water valve issue, for sure. You will have to trace out the lines (not easy, but possible) and figure out where the valve is. They usually turn left to open, and right to close. I would call the contractor and tell them what's going on- they could hopefully tell you where the valve is, and how to make sure it's on. The person who installed it should know.
Good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

Without a model number this is my best attempt at trying to help you with out it. In the bottom of the tub look for either a float assy or a finger like thing sticking up from the bottom. If there is a float gently push it down first then try lifting it up about 1/4 inch movement you should hear a click. If your has the finger type sensor make sure the openings are clear of obstructions. What seems to be happening is the unit thinks it is full of water.... so you need to clear / clean either the float of the sensor. If you respond with a model number I can probably provide you with a location diagram of float / sensor.
Thanks for choosing FixYa.

The sounds it is making most possibly are coming from the drain cycle. It is probably finished with the prewash, or the first cycle (depending on what cycle you use). You may have some foreign object down inside the impeller which is why you hear it more now. Often times, a glass may get broken and a small piece gets down inside the pump, or we have seen alot of different things (from cherry pits, to chicken bones). At any rate, you should be able to remove the lower screen inside your dishwasher to a recessed area. You can try and see if you find any objects down inside there and if so, remove them, then replace the screen. If the noise continues, the foreign object may flush itself out eventually. If it gets worse, or continues without any relief, you may need to have a service person come out and take your pump apart to get the foreign object.
