You need to finalize the disc u recorded in order to play on other dvd's. press setup, press disc, press finalize then press yes. Finalization will start, this may take some time depending on the amount to be finalized. Be patient. Good luck.
P.S If u have the manual those steps are on page's 36-37.

Try using a DVD / CD cleaner disc in the unit - this might fix the problem.

go to a radio shack store and ask the assistant to order the manual giving the number-RSU 12450193.( Note you cannot order it on line) the cost is $5.29 plus sales tax. I just received my copy 3 days after I ordered it. I got this info from Radio Shack Corporate Office who proved to be most helpful in my searching for this manual

when I put a dvd, always says .

Your best bets are the manufacturer (which can cost a pretty penny), eBay and other such websites (which is pretty hit or miss), or local electronics shops (especially repair shops or even a local dump).
If nothing else, find out the ratings, dimensions, and how it connects and try to find an alternative replacement.

If the spindle motor wont spin the media upto speed it will never read the DVD, looks like you might need a new motor, take the lid off with the power OFF and see if this is the case if so then if you give it a little push with the power ON and it works then its a new motor required.

This problem is caused when your dvd
lens is dirty or needs a replacement.
The lens is the device in the dvd that
make it possible for a user to play a
disc.

take the video and audio rca jack cables going fro direct tv box ouputs and hook them up to recorder rca jack inputs. Place recorder on AV or Input channel to record. Then from recorder to televison. Or have it go to both tv an recorder at the same time. You can do the same with coaxil cable as well.

use dvd-r they are not as tempermental. plus they are more universal if giving the media to somebody that may be older.

I can tell you some ideas genericaly for VCR's.

This could be an idler wheel assembly problem, or a tape tension, or a reel torque problem.

It can also be a power supply problem where the supply is working just on the edge. Due to some worn components in the supply it can be partialy shutting down.

Your machine will have to be checked out by an experienced VCR tech.
