When this happens with these units, unfortunately it means that the Bluetooth electronics, in particular the receiver has failed. In reality there is NO repairing these as one simply cannot get parts. The ONLY option you have is to return it to the manufacturer, and i think you need an RMA number, You need to contact them and inquire as to the procedure for repair.
Costing usually are fairly minimal,as they are mindful of the costs involved.

Yes you do indeed need to have Vista Drivers, That said sometimes the XP drivers MAY work if they and the software are installed in XP Compatibility Mode. Vista has been a nightmare for us in the Computer repair industry... one can only hope that all driver issues are addressed in any service packs to come? I doubt it tho...It seems a case of out with the old and in with the new...wheather ya like it or not.

maybe its a problem with your sound card. Check your microphone settings in Windows.

On a PC with external speakers and also a headset with microphone. Windows XP is configured so that standard audio are external speakers and standard microphone is the headset. Skype is configured to use the headset for audio in and out.

This way one can listen to sound from the PC and from MP3 players through external speakers and if there is a call to make or take, this is going through the headset.

But now there is the problem that the noise level for the headset is too low. Increasing volume has no effect on the headset, it only affects the external speaker's volume.

Now the solution: Going to the control panel and opening the sound setting, go to the audio tab. The external speakers are selected as default. Just temporarily select the headset and then click on volume just below. You can now set the volume for the headset, click OK and click cancel (!!!) on the sound control dialog box. This way the external speakers remain as default output.



Skype-->Tools -> Options -->Sound Devices-->audio device/USB/etc Audio Device (do NOT use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even
if the main speakers are off or turned down.

Windows:
Start-->Control panel-->Sound and Audio devices
On the audio tab set the default playback device to your main soundcard(AC97/Audio-chip/add-on-adapter), etc.
Your installed audio device must be present there.
If not, reinstall audio device

Shouldn't need drivers for this. Open System Preferences, which can be found in the Utilities folder, if it is not already on your Dock. It looks like a light switch with an apple logo on it. From there select Sound, under the hardware section. Click output, select the headphones, select Click input, again select the headphone/mic set. If it is not on the list, then so sorry, i was wrong, you need drivers, which you should be able to get from the altec lansing site.

If this is set and you still cant here, please let me know what system he is using. Is it the in game one from WoW? Ventrilo? If vent he will need the server data etc. from his guild or friend he is trying to speak with. If it is the in game one, just tell him to follow the in game instructions, they are fairly straight forward.
