Jenn air cook top

Yes you can. Call Jenn Air ((877) 232-6771) and give them your model number (serial is helpful too). They sent my replacement glass within a week. I have a model JED8430ABD from 2000 and they had the top. Fit perfectly and took about an hour to replace.

To change it out, after unplugging the cooktop, I removed the metal tape connecting the external vent shaft to the blower. Then I just lifted the entire cooktop out up out of the countertop so I could access the screws on the sides of the cooktop (looking at the edges of the new cooktop glass helped me figure out which screws to remove around the edge). Then I removed the 2 screws in the vent area on top (1 black screw on each side). And that released the cooktop glass from the metal box that holds the burners. I then took the rubber rings out of the knob holes so I could put them in the new cooktop (I almost missed that...). Finally, I put the new cooktop glass on, put the screws back in, lowered the cooktop back into the counter, and retaped the blower to the vent shaft. Voila!

I really wouldn't be afraid of doing this yourself if you are handy at all. And it will save you a ton. Good luck.

PS The screws around the perimeter are hexigon shapped, so you can't just use a screwdriver. I found my Black & Decker electric screwdriver had that same shaped hole that it held the bit, so I just pulled out the bit and used the screwdriver that way. Worked like a charm.

I can not separate the glass cooktop from the granite surface.

alot of installers will use a silicone glue to "seal" the unit to the countertop. what happens is that means you cant get it out without cutting the glue off first.
it could also be that the unit is very tight in the countertop.
also did you remove the "hold down" screws from underneath the unit first??? there should be a screw on each side below the unit.

one more thing... do you have a gas line under your counter? if not be sure you can get a gas line to it before you try to remove the old unit. most homes have a finished ceiling under the kitchen and it would be almost impossible to install a new gas line if its not already there.

How do you level the stove top

The bottom front of the range has two little legs with hex bottoms. Lift or tilt back the range until you're able to slide a shim (I used a metal ruler) under one of the little legs. Then, unscrew the other leg until it meets the ground. Remove the shim and unscrew the remaining leg until it meets the ground. Check for level and repeat until you get it right. I just did this just 5 minutes ago and if I can do it anyone can.

Blown accessory fuse? jenn air cooktop jed8430adb

the unit doesnt have any internal fuses. you have a house fuse blown or circuit breaker that tripped. the fan switch can be found online or from your local parts house and make sure you get the clips to hold it to the mounting tabs.
next time you get ready to work on it, just make sure and turn off the power first as you will touch the metal terminals to the frame again.

Our downdraft fan switch broke

There is no fuse on the unit. I suspect your house circuit is blown. If not, then a wire may have burnt off. Hope this helps!

We have a Jenn air

I just looked, and there is not a wiring diagram available on the web for this unit.

I am concerned about the black with red stripe to red.

Check to see if there is a wiring diagram somewhere on the unit (there wasn't one in the installation instruction or manual for this unit.). I believe the red wire on the house side goes to the black/black wire on the cooktop side (so I believe you are correct on your concern.).

House side green should be to the coiled silver cooktop side silver wire.

But the wiring diagram will confirm these things.

I think the black/red stripe is for the blower.

I need a wiring diagram

Cook top manuals and installation.

Could not find installation manual on oven but did find manual. If you are just trying to wire to the house wiring you need to conect this way. Yo uwill have 3- 4 wires from the house. 1 white, 2 black or 1 black and 1 red. From range hook white to white Black to black or red they both are the hot line. and the other black or red to black or red from the house. If you have bare wires that is the ground There is 2 ways to do the hook up on the ground. 1st way is if you have ground in box from house wire them together. 2nd way is if there is no groung just wire it up with the white wire that is the netural line. It will be fine that way. If you can see in you main braker box the netural and the ground go to the same bus bar.

Replace JED8430ADB Ceramic Glass

First, you have to pull out the cooktop from the counter and remove the knobs.
Next, there are hex screws around the perimeter - do not remove the lowest ones on the front and the back (they hold the tray that the burners sit in) or the ones on the bottom (they help to hold on the blower assembly).
The final trick are two screws that are located in the downdraft plenum - there's one on each side (you don't have to remove the two in the back or the front - those are for small covers only).
The glass should lift out.
When putting the new glass in, remember that the plenum walls fit on the inside of the glass (you won't see the top of the steel).

Wiring for a jenn air cooktop jec8536adb

Hi, I'm sure by now you probably have this fixed. Anyway, It is important that you know some information, like what the voltage is of the black and white wires coming in. The electrical codes in most places call for the 3rd wire which would be a neutral. If the old wiring has a metal conduit it is possible that it is being used as a ground and it may have been assumed that if the ground and neutral wires in the distribution panel were connected to the same bus that it wouldn't matter. Not the safest way to go but it will still work if you have no other wires. The incoming would probably be each a 110vac leg which the black would connect to black and the red from the cooktop would connect to the white of the incoming and the white of the cooktop would be sealed off. If you need additional help please let us know. Good Luck!
