How do you open a top loader
You have to hinge console back by loosening screws in back corner of console. Then remove two gold clips that hold cabinet on. Pry with flat head screwdriver. remove wiring harness from lid switch and the whole cabinet will pull forward If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at

Washer spinning problems
I want to help you, but I need more details.
Most commonly this type of problem is caused when the washer is overloaded and the motor or belts get worn out.

Water is coming out the bottom and not in to the loader
your fill hose is separated at the solenoid or you have a broken hose. Have someone look under the unit and see where the water is coming from. If there isn't a floor panel on the unit, pull it away from the wall and tilt it back so you can see the action underneath the unit. Start the cycle and see where the water is coming from. Stop the cycle and fix the leak.

Leaky washer
Janet I am VERY SURPRISED at this Whirlpool would do this...Shame on it! LOL. OK, Enough goofing around! Da Problem is Z in the Tub! It can be the following 1) Tub Seal (Most common) 2) Pump not draining (Second Most) 3) Washer exterior Drain to house. I forgot to mention this Is Very Common!. Janet these are the Easy fixes. The hard ones involve the tub being cracked (OMG!) or hose connections are cracked to/from washer and interior. Using the Wrong Soap! I know it is a reach but I have to mention it. If it is not the tub seal or the tub. You Gotta problem and you have to weigh the age of your washer vs purchasing a New one. If it is less than a yr old the Manufacture will take care of it. If you call Sears, plan on at least around $130+Parts. That may Pay for itself cause the person repairing it will guarantee the work. Good luck If you need further help, reach me via phone at

Washing machine not taking in water
Check the inlet valve screens, in back. Clean them out. If you are inclined to checking the solenoid coil resistance, make sure they are not open or shorted out. Also, check the lid switch, sometimes the kid switch goes bad, do you hear it "click" when the lid is closed?

How can i find out what the make and model is on
Most of the time, the model/serial tag is under the lid or behind the door, but sometimes it can be found on the top, back, or other location. If there is a metal tag with inscribed lettering, you can improve the readability by rubbing a dirty finger over it.

Will drain but not spin
Sounds like the coupler needs replaced. This is much easier to replace than a belt, actually. Accessing the interior of the unit can be tricky if your space is limited, but once inside, you'll have no problem working. Unplug the unit. If it is a typical Whirlpool top-load, you'll have a screw at each bottom corner of the control panel/backguard to loosen or remove, allowing you to flip the panel up. Disconnect the connector for the lid switch. Use the screwdriver to pop the spring clips holding the corners of the cabinet to the back panel, noting their orientation for reassembly. Once removed, just tilt the whole cabinet forward and off the unit's chassis. You'll want a bit of space to set this aside while you work.Once inside, the pump should be right up front, held on to the motor assy by 2 spring clips. The pump is held on with 2 mounting clips, and 2 hoses held with spring clips, but usually, you can just swing the pump out of the way without disconnecting the hoses. The motor is held by 2 clips secured with 2 screws, probably 5/16" head.
